Well two episodes of The Journeyman have made several things very clear to me: - I adore Kevin McKidd. - I miss San Francisco. I forget how gorgeous it is when I'm not there. - KM is too good for the material and the rest of the actors in this series. - It's absurd in a country that is as diverse as the US that an actor has to put on a fake American accent to get a role in television. - Network television gets more ridiculous every season. - The frequency of commercials is completely out of hand. - This show isn't going to last. - Rufus isn't getting knocked off his acting pedestal any time soon.

Maxx, I agree with your assessment of network t.v in general, but I think Journeyman has some potential. The plot is better than most, for starters. Compared to disasters like Dancing with the Stars and the typical sitcoms, JM is at least a little compelling. But I have to admit, I don't have cable (Netflix rules!) and only watch it when I'm in a hotel room, so that's just MHO.

I turned on the tv last night, which I do about once a week if that and was I ever shocked to see Journeyman on one of our local stations! I don't have cable so this was really a treat.
I like the show but cramming it all in an hour show - well 42 minutes? takes away most of the quality, IMO. I was very annoyed with all the advertising, not only the commercials but the advertisements for other shows plastered across half the screen while Journeyman was on and that incessant pizza (from pizza73) that rolls across the bottom of the screen every 10 minutes drove me bonkers. All it did was remind me why I buy dvds and don't bother with tv - free or otherwise. Tudors airs tonight!

I think it's a good show but not a great one. There was a really nice little scene in last night's episode where Dan finds the birth control pills in his wifes overnight case. A lot of things chased across his face in that little scenelet--disappointment, sadness, realization, acceptance, betrayal, love, comprehension... I'm sure it wasn't written into the script. It was an actor's choice.
The woman who plays Katie isn't nearly as skilled in her role. When he confronts her about them, she throws the moment completely away. There is only resigned defensiveness in her answer. We never see that she's sorry she has to make the decision, we never see that she loves him and would like to have the child, we never see frustration or any complex emotion. It's frighteningly obvious because he's so much more skilled as an actor than she is. And yet, as much as I like him, I'd never consider him exceptional.
That's just how bad network television is.
Yes the show has potential but it's complicated. You have to take a moment and think while you're watching it. Since television (network at least) speaks to the lowest common denominator I expect it not to last.

Compared to disasters like Dancing with the Stars and the typical sitcoms. But I *LIKE* Dancing with the Stars! If you love ballroom dancing like I do, its a lot of cheesy fun. I'm not saying its great TV, but I do love it.

I like it but I wouldn't even bother if McKidd wasn't in it. I really hope it's a smash hit and it serves as a vehicle to soar McKidd to superstardom.
Here it airs the same time as Stargate Atlantis but they are still showing season 2, lol. Maybe it'll prode the network into buying and airing more recent episodes!

Oh make no mistake I wouldn't bother if McKidd wasn't in it either. It's not that interesting--yet. And I doubt it's going to send him anywhere but screaming back to the UK with his wife and children in tow. But then I don't watch Stargate in any incarnation. I don't watch much television. I think right now I watch Journeyman... and that's pretty much it. Though I confess to loving Dexter. It's just such a weird little show, I can't resist it.

I would have thought you'd gotten into Stargate being a sci-fi fan and all? It's fallen off the last 2 years but the first 7 seasons of Stargate and the first two seasons of Atlantis were great!

Yeah no. Not my cup of tea. For me something either has to be really exceptionally well written and conceptualized or it has to have some very talented actors. I didn't find either of those in Stargate so I never got into it. Farscape kind of ruined me for television scifi. It was such an exceptional show that anything that came after it always seemed thin to me.

I have no idea if Journeyman will make it or not......but I am enjoying it. It's similar to Quantum Leap, yet totally different (yeah, that doesn't make sense!) and I think it will be interesting to see where they take it, if other people in his life will find out, why his ex-love is a part of his "traveling", and if they can keep it interesting and not make it like QL......in the whole, going back to make everything alright part every time. Hubby watched the first ep and won't watch again (he doesn't really give 2nd chances, so he misses a lot!)
I've also been watching Life (somewhat interesting, I want to see how he gets his vengeance), Bionic Woman (won't watch again, I don't like it), and Chuck (not sure about this one, it's cute, not sure it's season-long watching!)
We also watched "Saving Grace" over the summer..........at first I didn't like it, but the more I watched, the more I liked it.......then I began to get a little bored with it.........then I really liked it again!!! Anyone see this?

I tried watching LIFE yesterday because obviously Damian Lewis is to die for but I couldn't get into it. It's another crime show. *snore* I thought the scenes with Adam Arkin were the most fun. So I'm sticking with my netflix series DVD's (Big Love for example) and The X Factor downloads! Now that's entertainment Hurrah!

I'm not saying its great TV, but I do love it. Sorry ethereal! I enjoy dance as well, but I don't know most of the contestants, so it seems cheesy. I also watched "Chuck" and kinda like it...he had me with the Journey ringtone.
