Yep! Though I've only seen season 1 and will have to wait for season 2 to be released in DVD this fall since I don't subscribe to showtime. When I first heard about the premise of this series I said what!? The 'hero' is a what?? But then I remembered how I'm always b**ching that there aren't enough original ideas for new series anymore.... So I watched it, and enjoyed it too!!

I actually just saw season 2. It's far superior to season 1.
The writing is... well I look at something like Dexter and I wonder why we can't get writing like that in film and broadcast television. I keep meaning to try to catch it on CBS just to see what they've done to it but I never seem to quite manage it. I figure there are a couple episodes that by the time they cut out everything offensive to the FCC they will be 5 or 6 minutes long. They may have filmed dual versions. That's very common these days but what would Dexter be without things like Rita's Halloween gift which no matter how you package it will never fly on CBS. Or the little family reunion at the end of season 1? How is it Dexter without that?

I've caught 2 episodes of Dexter on CBS as per a friend's recommendation. Very fresh and edgy, I thought. I've never seen the Showtime versions, but you could tell there was some dubbing..."forget you" instead of f.u. and another entire sentence that was unintelligible. I'm sure it was heavily edited, but there was a very clear implication of oral sex...twice. I was surprised to see even that at 8 pm on network!
I'll bet they yank it when the regular shows return in April. I'm glad to see it's on dvd.

oh boy. there are episodes coming up that I have a hard time seeing how they could air outside of cable. Imagine if they decided to air Rome on network television.
Skip over the sex for a moment and there is an episode where Dexter reminisces about his first kill. And it's a mess. The shock factor alone...
And the second series pushes the envelope even more, but it was fabulous. I'm not sure when it's to be out in the US on DVD. I don't think they have set a date yet.

I bought and just finished watching Season 1 on DVD. I have to admit that I was surprised by how good the writing was--not to mention the acting! Yowza.
I hope S2 is as good. I have to wait for the DVDs 'cause I do not *even* want to mess with television and cable anymore.
Has anyone read the novels?

season 2 is terrific. I've read the first novel, I thought it was soso. The character on the screen is so much more complex than what's written on the page, it's startling.

Thanks, Maxx.
Is Season 2 based on the second novel?

Haven't got a clue. Probably won't read it. It was difficult for me to get through the first one.
