, here all the trailers don't have even a micro-second of Rufus in them! I mean the ads on TV.........the trailers at the theaters do show him 2 or 3 times!!! Well, Britfan.........looks like we may have to stay for the whole film! Just to see Jack Black and see if the reviewer on Today Show was right!!!!! I say we spring for a LARGE popcorn!!! LOL Michelle

I'm with you on this Britfan2! I don't mean to be too....snarky but I have to question his agent's diligence. Wonder what he/she is getting paid? Heck, I'd take the job on for free if R. would let me pitch a tent in the corner of his back yard. Have you seen the prices on flats in London?? Ree

*SPOILERS* I saw THE HOLIDAY this morning. Loved it. It's a completely corny Christmas chick flick in the best Richard Curtis tradition but I'm a total sucker for corny Richard Curtis chick flicks! Every location is ridiculously idyllic. Jude Law is TO. DIE. FOR. Rufus' character Jasper is despicable. You know how normally we tend to sympathise with his villains because he humanizes them and you either a) see that they are misunderstood souls or b) he is just so much cooler than the dull hero of the piece... not so with Jasper. He's a vile bastard and I didn't spot any redeeming qualities. I totally did not like Jasper at all and that's Jasper played by bloody RUFUS SEWELL who we all know I like very much. I did not root for him. , is that good acting or what? Anyway, this is perfect Holiday season fare. The only things missing really were shots of London in Christmas mode and of course the staples Hugh Grant and Colin Firth. And Richard Curtis, I suppose.

WOOHOO! Thanks, UKe! Now I really want to see this one next Friday! I think it's great to see Rufus play a character, not unlike other characters he's done, in that this Jasper fellow is bad..........but that we don't feel anything for! His talent never ceases to amaze me!

For those of us in the UK, ITV1 are showing a programme about the premiere for The Holiday (I am presuming Rufus will be in attendance!) on Monday 11 December at 11.30pm (and on ITV2 earlier at 8.30pm).
Recording fingers at the ready!

Kate Winslet mentions Rufus in an interview: "It was completely fine. Completely fine. I mean, I hadn’t seen him for a very, very long time but you know we’d remained friends. It was really not a big deal. It was purely coincidence, but I was thrilled by the suggestion because he’s a wonderful actor and I couldn’t think of anyone more perfect for Jasper."www.canmag.com/news/4/3/5949Hmm - "anyone more perfect for Jasper" - did she mean that as an compliment ...

Well, Rufus certainly thinks the world of Kate according to all he said on GMTV, so I'd take it that they really are friends and working together really was no problem.

I just meant that sometimes it just happens that what one means by saying something turns out sounding like they have some funny submeanings that you don’t intend, like a clumsy compliment (does that make any sense in english …)

Saw "The Holiday" yesterday, won free tickets for a special first showing! Nice movie, but as soon as you leave the cinema you will forget about it, at least I did.
Rufus is in one sceen at the beginning, looks good obviously, but plays a very unlikable character, and at the end he is in one other scene. I think he could have done the part Jude (who - I have to admit - looks very cute) is playing just as easily... (as Rufus's performance in The Taming of the Shrew has shown). And that Jack Black is just awful.

You're my kinda girl, redalert. I thought exactly the same thing! Rufus & Jude should have switched parts. What a break from character roles for Roof. Jude would be playing himself & I bet the movie, at least for our group, would be a lot more memorable! ;D

This seems to be totally splitting the vote among the critics - they either love or hate it, no half-measures at all! The most memorable description of Rufus as Jasper so far: "Cute but caddish" (Sunday Times today). I reallllllly don't like Jack Black or Jude law, so I might even give this a miss until the DVD... (is this sacrilege?)

If it helps GE2 I won't see it either. I loathe rom coms and the only other person in this that I like is Kate Winslet. I can't sit through 2 hours of that stuff for 10 minutes of Rufus. If any one of the other factors were absent I'd go but I just can't force myself. I considered it strongly thinking when Rufus' part was over I'd leave. But then a friend told me he was at the beginning and the end. My only other alternative was to go to one of the theatres with a bar and drink between appearances! lol! I decided to wait for the DVD. I'm sure they won't need or miss my 14.00. I'll save my cash for Rock 'n' Roll.

Two big days ahead and I should be in bed but I just got home from the cinema and felt compelled to pop in and say.... I'm a sucker for romance, but The Holiday just plain sucks. I do rom coms (probably more than is good for me) but, god damn it, this film is shudderingly, embarrassingly dreadful from start to finish. Jude Law is creepy (with the possible exception of the 'Mr Napkin Head' scene, when I don't believe he was acting - just *interacting* with the children), Cameron Diaz is like Barbie on speed, Jack Black looks uncomfortable except when he's allowed to clown and Kate Winslet tries hard but is eventually overwhelmed by the pile of s**t* masquerading as a script. I don't recall ever walking out of a movie (though I've been tempted at times - Batman and Robin springs to mind but if I hadn't happened to read in a review that Ruf appears again just before the end, I would definitely have walked out of this one after about 20 minutes. Its only redeeming factor is the sight of Ruf lying on a sofa with his hair mussed up. That's about a minute and a half of a two hours plus film. You know it says something when the best bit of acting in the whole damn thing is Rufus' half of a phone conversation...when he's not even on screen. Even disembodied, the man conveys his heartless git of a character better than the other four convey theirs in almost 200 minutes of screen time. Uke, I think we saw a different movie. Richard Curtis would fall on his sharpened pen nib if he ever served up something so purile. This review in The Guardian says it all for me. I especially like the bit about the filmmakers' idea of Surrey being the sort of place you could only access through the back of a wardrobe. Priceless. film.guardian.co.uk/News_Story/Critic_Review/Guardian_review/0,,1966936,00.html Rant over. I shall go away and calm down now.
