I finally just saw this and am still in shock at how bad it was. All the best parts were in the trailers, the picturesque country cottage, Amanda schlepping thru the snow, the email scene, Amanda's breakup with Ethan, the sexy banter with Graham. I was really looking forward to it, it could have been so great, how could it miss with a cast like that? Rufus was great for his whole 5 minutes of screen time. I even kinda felt bad for him, he flew all the way to LA with his belated Christmas gift professing how he misses having her around - aawww! I'm sorry but I found it very boring, not funny at all and the hollywood ending was over the top in my opinion.

Well, I finally relented and went to see this (I realise I am probably the only person on this board who hadn't seen it - except maxx), and I have to say, I enjoyed it much more than I expected. Rufus was an absolute (to use his word) toad in it, but a gorgeous-looking toad at that, and I almost felt sorry for him when he arrived in LA...but, no, he was still a total sh*t! Totally unredeemable = brilliant acting! I didn't have too much of a problem with the cutesiness of the UK scenes (we Brits get used to Hollyweird thinking it always snows at Christmas in the UK - uh, doh! Hardly ever...), Jack Black's performance was nicely restrained, and Jude Law was just about bearable - Cameron Diaz less so. Kate Winslett was, at times, just as irritating as Cameron, but her character was far more likeable - and her scenes with Eli Wallach were wonderful. Rufus as Graham would have been interesting, and I would have loved to see him in the interplay with the little girls (and I agree with whoever said she'd like to see him in the role of a father - he has the sensitivity to work with child actors really well), but oh, having to do those scenes with Diaz...hmmm. So all in all, I am glad I went to see it - and can't wait for the DVD. GE2

Not that he needs it but the poor lad could do with some support on the Holiday board on IMDB right now - the dimwits over there dont see talent when it is right in front of them and they think that Jude Law is God's gift .... ugh, how could they be so shortsighted? ??

I agree. Rufus Sewell should have definitely gotten the Jude Law part. What's up with that?

Thanks, Quoll for letting us know that Ru was getting beaten up. Well, what a sugar bowl this is. Fine acting though, no complants about Diaz. Goes for Jude Law also.
But Rufus was just amazing again, although the part was so small. Totally different person, an ur-slime indeed. He really is one of the greatest actors around.
I was thinking while watching that the way he portrayed Jasper reminded me of someone living --- Donald Trump! - not as arrogant, but there was something in the face, the postition of the lips, or...?
And the way Jasper said "oh ..." after Iris had said that she had a present. Hilariously sissy.

Ugh, Ugh, Ugh - the co-worker I like least in my office came and announced that she had seen the Holiday and had fallen in love (she envies me my Rufus wall paper on the computer and personally signed photograph!!!) She was thrilled to tell me that she had fallen for ...... wait for it ..... JUDE LAW! Once I stopped vomiting and laughing hysterically she was most affronted. She didnt even notice Rufus in the Holiday. I told you she has excerable taste and we have absolutely NOTHING in common. Jude Law - cough, splutter, gag!

britfan2, you know, it took me this long to figure out what is a cotton candy. I was too lazy to look the dictionary and I was thinking the fabric and wondering could it be some kind of a silky-soft toffee or what. Only now I realized that I should think about cotton flowers ... quoll, that's sad But you know, that's nothing compared to what I have been going through for years now. At least your judelaw-fan is the least likable anyway, whereas my best frind since student times has been a loyal judelaw admirer for ages now. It's really hard sometimes and also I keep asking myself what do we actually have in common if the situation is this. I don't have much against Jude, he has done some good work like enemy at the gates or A.I., but still it's a nuisance to have a friend who is overly enthusiastic about someone so very ordinary, what does she see in him ? .... well, at least she doesen't love Hugh Grant .... or Tom Cruise - we propably wouldn't be frinds if that was the case ...
