I'm not sure if we have mentioned that one here before - I recently watched "Walk the Line", mostly because everyone kept recommending it with regard to my love for Johnny Cash's music. I wasn't expecting too much because I never thought very highly of Joaquin Phoenix, but he's pretty darn good in this. He's got Johnny's attitude down to a T and even gets the singing right. The other reason why I loved it was Reese Witherspoon's June Carter. Amazing voice and a well-deserved Oscar for her acting. And of course the period setting. Give me men in suits and girls in pretty dresses and those spectacular period cars and I'm more than happy

I agree. Not a movie I thought I would like but I did enjoy it very much. They did a great job with the singing.

Great film! I also liked it very much, the acting and the singing (and I´m normally no fan of Reese Witherspoon)!

Apart from her excellent performance, I thought she really rocked that '50s look, and I loved her with the darker hair.

That is an outstanding film, especially for lovers of Johnny Cash.

Thanks for starting this review Kate and you girls who went along with her to recommend it.
I didn't see this when it came out mostly because I don't care for Joachim Phoenix only slightly less than Reese Withersponon ( Yeh, yeh I know she 's good and I have seen her several films I enjoyed. She's just not for me,) Even though I love Johnny Cash, I usually dislike biopics .
I will take your tip and look out for the DVD.

I'm very curious to hear what you think of it. As I said, Joaquin Phoenix never did a lot for me, and I thought Reese was good in many films she did but she never left a deeper impression on me either. But this one was really something else.

Walk the Line is a really good film. JP is excellent as Johnny Cash, but I also really enjoyed his turn as Commodus in Gladiator. Such a despicably jealous character.
And for the life of me I fail to see any resemblance between JP and our Rufus.
Ray is also a good one to watch with Jamie Foxx in the lead role.

Commodus was such a wonderful character to hate I was not too impressed with the Gladiator movie as a whole, though. I did think in certain scenes that I'd love to see JP and Rufus cast as brothers. There's no actual twin-like resemblance but there was "something" (which I can't quite put my finger on).

Yes, maybe their great-great-grandfathers were closely related On the other hand, siblings can look rather different from each other

I saw 'The Woman in Black' over the weekend . What a great little flick. A Hammer film, which I take to be the old Brit company 'Hammer House of Horror' it starred a grownup Daniel Radcliffe . Well cast , Ciaran Hinds amongst several others familiar faces, it was a creepy ghost story based on the book by Susan Hill. Beautifully filmed and very atmospheric, it made me jump a few times. If you fancy a fright now and then , you will enjoy this .

Sounds good, Frannie!
We saw "The Escapist" on TV last weekend, starring Brian Cox, Damian Lewis, Dominic Cooper and Joseph Fiennes and set in a London prison. Brian Cox's character wants to get out of there when he learns his beloved daughter has turned into a junkie and might not live much longer. He gets a few of his fellow prisoners to embark on a mad escape plan, but the guy who's calling the shots in the prison (a wonderfully nasty Damian Lewis) gets in the way. I loved that this wasn't the usual action-packed thriller take on the subject matter but rather more of a psychological thing.

I thought 'The Woman in Black' was pretty good. Step son couldn't get past the fact that it was Harry Potter, but I thought Mr. Radcliffe did a nice job.
Watched 'The Way Way Back' recently. Steve Carell's character is not very pleasant (a change for him), but Sam Rockwell is the heart and soul of the movie, without question.
P.S. Yep...I've read that they are trying to bring that studio back.

I guess the poor boy will always be Harry Potter in many people's minds, no matter how grown-up he gets or how many movies he makes in which he's not wearing glasses and sporting a lightning-shaped scar
