I've managed to catch up on my sleep the last couple of days so I'm feeling much better, now. Although I thought it was going to be another all-nighter last night when three police cars came screeching into the parking lot and my neighbor was screaming and yelling, God only knows about what. I definitely need to look into moving! Obscenity-laced, drunken arguements from a couple of neighbors are becoming a bit too frequent. I'm hoping the landlord is going to step in and get it straightened out after this last incident.

Glad you're better, ambra. That sounds like an unpleasant situation with the annoying neighbors! I hope it's resolved soon.
My rant for today is that Microsoft tried to kill my computer with one of their "important" updates. Took me 3 hours to get my computer restarted, and only after numerous reboots in safe mode, and turning it off by unplugging it, despite the dire onscreen warnings not to turn it off. Grrrrr! Why do they put out patches that "fix" nonexistent glitches by destroying your hard drive? I don't need no stinkin' patches! (Sorry, if I had to go through all that, someone was going to hear my bad pun.)
Worst of all, it delayed my commentary on In a Savage Land, which I know you've all been waiting desperately for!

but then again, microsoft is one of the greater evils of this world, one we cannot live without, like alcool and chocolate and naked men and money and yearly salary increases.

A rant, I purchased a new Dell last year, with Vista, in a word, awful. I had them put in extra memory b/c of all the pictures I have on it and music, but the thing is interminable. I much prefer Windows.

Vista is terrible. It uses up so much memory on the computer and doesn't provide any benefits (that I can tell) over XP.
Tipou, your list of things we couldn't do without left out Rufus. Or was he included in the "naked men"?

i was listing "evil things", hon. so rufus would fit in only if naked. and bringing along a box of chocolate, a bottle of wine, and some cash.
oh darn. pulse racing again.
do you know the joke about bill gates and st.peter ? bill gates has just died and st.peter welcomes him saying, ok, bill, welcome to afterlife, you get to choose between heaven or hell, now. so bill goes, oh we get to choose, really? st.peter shows him too images on a p.c. one, he says, is heaven, with cherubs on clouds, harp music, really boring stuff. and then he shows another image, with hot babes playing volleyball in the nude on a sunny beach, and st.peter says - billy, that, that is HELL. so of course bill gates chooses hell... ..and he instantly finds himself cooking over an eternal fire, with demons poking at him with big forks, and it's dark and all you can hear is people screaming in agony !!! -st.peter, he cries, where are the babes and the beach you've shown me???!!! st.peter says, of all people, you should have known - that was only the screen saver!!!

Oh, I see we need to have a little talk about the nature of evil, Tipou. What you have described is the opposite of evil. Yes, that's right, it's "LIVE!"
Love the Bill Gates joke. A fiery pit is too good for him, though, I don't care how much money he gives away.

I'm thinking of getting a laptop with my tax refund but I don't know anything about computers! I've heard only things about Vista so I'm trying to stay away from that operating system if I can. Hmmm...Rufus, naked, with a bottle of wine and chocolates? And I have the perfect wine--Raspberry Beret from one of the local wineries here, Villa Appalachia. It's a dessert wine that is absolutely decadent when paired with a good dark chocolate! My mind is just racing with all sorts of naughty thoughts now!

the world has no future....I'm crossing my fingers that that temple in Jeruselum doesn;t topple and get rebuilt. Indeed! As they say, "The world's going to hell in a handbasket" I love my new Epochate cd. The description of the message of these guys is: "Epochate is a look at the eternal struggle generated by thought and power. Epochate is the journey of mankind across philosophies, ideals and creed. A report of the attempts, defeats and victories of the human race through an age of wars, violence and arrogance. “As the world fades into oblivion, unable to endure the weight of its arrogant sovereigns, all we can do is wait for the inevitable to come and the balance to be restored at the end of this dying era. Epochate is not a new beginning. Epochate is the end.” On a lighter note: The world is coming to an end at 8- Details at 11 Love the Gates joke Tipou!

Actually the Book of Revelations is something that truly frightens me if I think on it too much...the whole "what's gonna happen when I die" questions just freakin stresses me out....I mean I am a Christian, but sometimes it gets hard to not dwell on the end times.
But whatever.
Why all the hate for Bill Gates? He helped revolutionize the way we connect with people. Just because he is wildly successful at what he does everyone hates him? I don't get it.

Actually, although I've happily joined in the jokes, I don't really hate Bill Gates personally. My real gripe is with Microsoft, of which he is the public face. I don't like many of Microsoft's business tactics, which are Wal-Martish in their attempts to control or destroy all small rivals. I don't like how every time they update their operating system, instead of going through it and taking out old unnecessary code and replacing it with improved code, they just pile on new code for new apps, so that the operating system eats up a huge amount of your computer's memory with code that is essentially unused. And I definitely don't like how they release patches without ensuring that they won't damage the user's computer, and when they do release a defective patch, their "support staff" is totally useless.
Bill Gates has done many humanitarian things lately, but to me his company's business practices are questionable.

OMG! I just got off the phone with my mom who is very upset with my aunt, Mary and for good reason. I mentioned in another thread that Mary is religiously ultra-conservative and tends to try and push her beliefs on others. My brother and his fiance, who just had a baby boy, discussed having Mary's minister perform the wedding ceremony, although I don't know why because my brother doesn't even go to church, much less have the same beliefs as my aunt. I guess it's because he's the only minister my brother knows because he lived with my aunt for awhile when he was in GA and out of respect for her, went to church with her and my uncle a few times. Anyway, Mary calls my mom and tells her that her minister doesn't normally marry people who are "living in sin" and have an out-of-wedlock child but he would make an exception in Andy's case if he and Theresa, his fiance, agreed not to have sex until after the wedding! Then she informs my mom that she told Theresa not to worry about a wedding dress because she was sure my mother would be willing to buy her one when she came down to visit! My mom bit her tongue and didn't say anything because she was so angry she was afraid she was going to say something she'd regret. Once she calmed down, she sent Mary an email saying first, she didn't appreciate Mary's minister basically calling my nephew a bastard and devaluing his birth simply because his parents weren't married at the time. She also didn't like that he thought it was his place to put restrictions on someone's private relationship in order for their marriage to be valid in the eyes of God. Instead, God would rejoice in their willingness to make a committment to each other, no matter what the circumstances. She told Mary, "You asked me once why our church continues to grow and this is why: the people who've come to our church and stayed said they felt welcome and accepted, not judged and made to feel quilty for being who they are and for the mistakes they've made. They feel we've shown them the true spirit of Christianity as a loving God intends it to be." She went on to say she really didn't appreciate her telling Theresa that my mom would buy her a wedding dress! My folks are retired and with the economy the way it is, they're having to watch their spending. Besides, before she found out she was pregnant, Theresa was just going to rent a dress since this is her second marriage and she doesn't want to have a huge ceremony anyway. Mary has never been able to grasp the concept of responsible spending. She's known for just blowing money on stupid stuff so it was probably nothing for her to think my mom would just have cash to spend on a wedding dress for someone else. It also has never dawned on her that her hardline, "believe this or your a terrible person" religious views drive people away from God rather than to Him, including her own kids who are pretty much atheist now because they can't accept the concept that a supposedly loving God would want to make them feel worthless if they didn't meet the narrow criteria that was set before them by their church. I'm sure my mom's words will fall on deaf ears, since anyone who disagrees with my aunt is dismissed as an unrepentant sinner who is going to burn in the fires of Hell for all eternity; I just hope it doesn't lead to tensions at the wedding this summer.

hence why I don't do organized religion. I mean everyone thinks their version is right and a lot of churches judge you if you don't believe and follow that churches doctrine. When I was younger, my parents amd I went to church pretty regulary. We did the whole Sunday service, Sunday school, Wed bible study...all that fun stuff. We stopped going however when some of the church elders pulled my dad aside and told him he needed to "control" my mother better. She was known to say what she wanted to say regardless of whether it would offend people...*hmmm wonder how I ended up the same way* lol. Anyway they also tried to say that John Denver was "devil music" and if my mom continued to listen to him, she would go to hell. But the deal breaker was when my Sunday school teacher told me I couldn't be anything other than a nurse or a mother because I was a girl. This was after they wanted everyone to write down a list of things they wanted to be when they grew up. My list included the gasp inducing choices like Police Officer, Firefighter and American Gladiator. God Forbid!

Not all churches have "it's my way or the highway" attitude; I know mine doesn't. I have problems with the ones that do, like my aunt's and like the one your family was in. They give every religious institution a bad name. I mentioned to my mom that I thought they allowed homosexuals as members as long as they agree to "repent" of the sin and become straight but she corrected me. They don't allow homosexuals in the church because they are "a bad example for the children" yet they allowed a convicted peodophile to become a member because he said he'd repented and promised God he'd never do it again! That's just a shattered life and quite possibly a law suit waiting to happen!

major rant.
it so happen that danny will not be able to make it for the week end after all. hteir plane broke down and so he cannot reach the kuujjuuak airport in time for his flight. and then his work is due to continue on tuesday so there is simply no time.
why did i not fall in love with an accountant.
i got off the phone with him about half and hour ago, we were both crying, fed up with the distance. its worse for him because there is nothing for him to do but work. i have my family and friends, he is alone with a bunch of smelly guys.
he probably will not be able to get down here before the end of march.
sorry to get it off my chest. would you mind terribly if i afflicted you all weekend with very bad jokes and silly radishes comments?
