ok so i started the new thread in advance, as i know we are all be hurrying back here when the new ep is over.
heard it would be about a miracle cure for cancer that jacob is dubious about, i certainly hope the "wonderful team of writers" have at least introduced a few personal data about dreamy dr hood's personal drama. as elvis sang, it's now or never.
bring on the internal conflicts, the painful reminiscences, the subtil and not so subtil hints to the secret life of this potentially delicious character, LET OUR RUFUS RULE, and please have rachel provide just the right quantity of kleenexes.

I just posted a new thread over at CBS on same subject. The title of this ep is an omen, and a good one, since last week's ep writing has gotten crisper and tighter and the chemistry between Jacob and Rachel is completely believable. Opening sequence was a hoot, there's the humour we've all been waiting for. YIPPEE!!!!!
And there's that vulnerable side we've come to know and love. Thank you cbs. kudos to you.

that was a pretttttty good episode, wasn't it??? i was totally buying the suspense. it had good characters, i actually was schocked when the good doctor died, she was so sympathetic, and she had made jacob open up! which was a miracle in itself. the miracle boy and his dad, the young guitar player who befriended them, the quirky scientists helping out... true people we got to care about. this episode, "miracle", was full of small human miracles, the boy trying to save his new friend, the dog being rescued, and i wondered if it was accidental, until the end, when rachel pointed out to jacob that the flood itself had been a miracle, allowing to stop a terrorist attack, and so the scientist was forced to swallow the pill - am i reading too much into it, or WAS THERE ACTUALLY A SCRIPT IN THERE? ? yes, the opening sequence was a hoot, i found it much better than the shooting range crap of last week, was jacob a bit too sarcastic about "mr. shoes", HMMMMMM? oh yeah, he looked sooooo embarrassed, but then he manipulates rachel into following him into his miracle busting trip. there was a true feel, at long last, of what dr. hood's reasons for doing his job might be. we knew before he deeply cares whenever he succeeds and saves lives. but never was this so evident that the need to save became his drug after the death of wife, who he was not able to save. and still, he takes the time to take the dog out for a "peepee walk". and rachel was the perfect partner, they totally complemented each other, he let her take over when it was her turn to do her job - about time, i was quite tired of having him play the stunt man on each episode. and i think that marley shelton was actually very good in this one! they let her do her job!!!! i still think, however, that as an actor rufus still held back a bit. maybe he is building up to something, there seems to be a definite evolution in character, the next weeks will tell. the part about "why is this boy so special", in the doctor's house, was quite good though, as was hood's realizing the awfulness of what he had said, when rachel reminded him. if this episode had been, say, episode 2 or 3, this show would be a total hit by now. hope to god its not too late, now i definitely want it to go on.

A very good episode! I love how they've made Hood so single-mindly focused when something gets his scientific mind ticking. He didn't even notice that Rachel was wearing only a shirt--a man's shirt, no less! I think she could've answered the door stark naked and he wouldn't have blinked an eye. Then he just walks in without saying so much as "excuse me."
Hood seemed surprised that Rachel recognized that the loss of his wife might be affecting his judgement. I'm not sure he'd faced that himself until she said something to him about it. Not that he would wish anyone ill-will but it had to bring up some anger and resentment that his wife didn't receive a miracle of her own.
We've had two very good episodes in a row now; I hope the trend continues, although it's hard to tell from the preview for next week's episode.

Something about a dead guy with two hearts in California. Looks so-so. Maybe a good car chase, and the preview featured a Pontiac Solstice...my mother has one of those, sweet car.
I liked last nights ep, but I didn't like the opening sequence with the boy and his father, it just seemed forced.
I did like the scene in Rachels apartment. Hood is sooo clueless it's kind of cute. And you go Rachel! "Trust me, he'll wait" hehehehe. Yeah you show that man who's boss. I'm liking her, I am...
I swear I recognize the guitar player...anyone else?

i've seen her somewhere too, cant seem to place her.
we all know hood's sometimes childlike take on things, but i would not say that he was totally innocent in rachel's appartment... in fact he manipulated her into leaving "mr. shoes" behind. "i have to do this alone..."yeah, sure, he knows very well that she will not let him work solo.

If you haven't seen the episode, there might be some SPOILERS in the following post:
I also thought this was a very good episode (despite the dryness of Rufus--couldn't he have taken a little dip in the miracle spring?). The first scene was fun. The dialogue had very few clunkers for a change. I liked the way Marley Shelton portrayed Rachel confronting Jacob. She didn't write the dialogue, of course, but she really did a good job of conveying the pointed yet gentle way that a friend would bring up a painful topic.
As a fan of mysteries, I do wish they wouldn't make the villains so obvious, but I guess you can't have everything. Their motives and nefarious plans aren't usually clear--to me, anyway--but the evil doers themselves are usually only one step away from twirling a Snidley Whiplash mustache. Would maintenance guys really work in a wet basement with the lights snapping and popping and fading in and out, or would they set about to repair the lighting first (plus dry up any electrocution puddles) so they could see what the heck they were doing?
I hope the ratings are good enough to keep the show going. I wish that ER hadn't been extended for extra episodes. It would have been nice to see how the Eleventh Hour did without competing against "last season" hype, but now I think they're due to end the same week.

I haven't watched the episode yet but after reading your comments I'm hopeful!! I finally watched last week's episode and it was much better than the week before so maybe CBS is listening to their audience for once. This show could be so much better and it seems as if the writers are trying...maybe they're taking a class or something!!! I was thinking though that maybe the writers, as part of their training, should tune into the BBC and watch a show like MI-5, (aka Spooks in the UK) and see how it's really done. I know I'm repeating myself, but US network tv is so lame (imo, all you have to do is see what shows are CBS's top 3!). I want Mr. Sewell to have the words to really make his acting shine! If he's been kind and generous enough(lol) to allow CBS to hire him (and maybe the suits at CBS are finally realizing what a brilliant talent they have in front of them!), they should give him whatever he needs to make his show a success!!

Aw, tipou, you are very kind. I love your posts too. So insightful and so funny. And you quite rightly focus more on the tremendous talent, and not just the overwhelming, breathtaking physical beauty (did I say that out loud?).
dirtygirldiva, the girl who played the guitar looked familiar to me too, so I looked her up on imdb. Her name is Angela Gots. However, the only thing I might have recognized her from was one episode of House, earlier this year. Her other credits were on shows I haven't seen, like the L Word and Sleeper Cell (which was a miniseries by the producers of Eleventh Hour). So I'm not sure why I thought I knew her. She must resemble someone else, I guess. (And to get back to my usual very shallow place, I'd probably work for free if the part called for Rufus to call me "Honey.")

Ha! A girl after my own heart! It's not our fault, really. I think the testosterone actually oozes through the screen and infects susceptible viewers. (Maybe they should do an episode about that weird science.)

oh. what a great idea. dr. jacob hood, aided by special agent rachel young (in this case, preferable unaided by said agent) could be called to study, very very closely, the reason for mass hysteria in a certain internet message board, and then strangely disappear after a great female-voiced uproar is heard all over the internet... let's call CBS right now.
