Hi, everyone. I sort of rudely jumped into a few conversations over the last week without really introducing myself, so I thought I'd take care of that now, even though everyone here has been extremely kind and gracious regardless.
I'm a fan of both old and current movies and tv and am known for recognizing actors and actresses, even obscure ones. So maybe 8 or 10 months ago, I saw the 1969 movie Battle of Britain with a young Ian McShane (whom I knew of from other things like Deadwood and Lovejoy). Not too long after that, as my husband was flipping through channels (his hobby, apparently--never see more than 15 seconds of a show at a time), he landed on A Knight's Tale, just long enough for me to see a guy that I would have sworn had to be Ian McShane's son. Since I have to maintain my reputation, I checked it out on imdb.
Of course, you will realize that I mean Rufus; this is a resemblance that others have commented on. Anyway, that was it...I actually moved on in my life, just thinking, "Hmm, I've heard that name before. So that's who he is." Can you believe it? What was I thinking?
Flash forward to about Sept or Oct. I saw a few preview clips for Eleventh Hour. Then I was on the CBS website and saw the interview clips, with Rufus just seeming to be himself. And that was it. I was bitten, BAD. I sought out more clips on the internet, websites, whatever. Especially love love love the audio clips, because his voice is like having someone read you a soothing bedtime story all the time. Hung around here anonymously and enjoyed the conversations (and abundant pictures) very much.
So, I've decided to join in on the fun, although I'm sure there will be brief periods when I have to opt out. Family and work and all that (oh how I wish I were independently wealthy). Hope to see you all around.

(2) yes, we can believe it. most of us have been through this stage. we are so sorry not to have recognized rufus' talent earlier, and we would so understand if, one day, he decided to punish us by glaring at us privately for several hours each - maybe longer for me, because i only discovered him last october. anytime, roof, really. (3) i know i already joined the effort to bully you into buying "in a savage land", but reading your comment about THAT VOICE, i must urge you to download "nick silver can't sleep". whenever danny is around, which is not often, we listen to it at bedtime. it can do wonders for your couple, and save you a fortune in eventual marital therapy. i will say no more.

1. Now I can't remember who said it was always easier to apologize after the fact than ask permission beforehand. A quote from some tv show, no doubt!
2. You have just sent me to a terrible, yet delicious place. (As an aside, I think a Rufus glare can cut through titanium.)
3. Aha, I already have Nick Silver, thank you very much . Hmm, I can't imagine my hubby putting up with it though. Interesting thought. Best of all, I purchased Joseph Andrews from Silksounds. It's 13 hours of Rufus whispering in my ear. He's an absolutely fabulous reader. Plus, it's a hilarious book. It does require attention to get the humor, because the language is so different, so when I drift off I have to go back and relisten.
4. I know there's no 4 in your post--deal with it! Thank you for all your kindness!

Go to Silksoundbooks.com. It is a British company (partly owned by Bill Nighy) that produces classic books read by famous actors and actresses. I'm sure they use classic books because they don't have to pay royalties. Rufus has read one book for them, Joseph Andrews by Henry Fielding, a 17th? century writer who wrote parodies of some of the popular novels of the day. It cost me about $15 US, and I downloaded it onto my ipod, and perhaps I should have said 12 hours, but that is NOT an exaggeration.
As I mentioned, it is a comic novel, but of a certain kind of dry humor, similar to Jane Austen type of humor, pointing out the follies of average people. Fortunately, that's my sense of humor. The story requires him to do many voices, which he does beautifully.
So go. Go right now. Now I'm commanding YOU!

11 H. 53 MIN. to be exact. you exaggerated, but just a little bit.
ok so its downloading right now.
i'm telling you, with the kind of money i have invested so far in rufus sewell, he better have the glorious career i predicted earlier in this message board, because he has now, for me, transitioned from movie genius/heartthrob to financial investment.
so he better come up with pretty good movies, but not next week, i'm broke, would not be able to pay for the friggin' ticket.
and when will i see the dividends, huh? huh?

It's not just for you and me, but for the next generation and, with any luck, the one after that. Won't you think of the children?
Anyway, these days Rufus is a safter financial investment than any stock or mutual fund.

Anyway, these days Rufus is a safter financial investment than any stock or mutual fund. and definitely cuter, that's true.. i justcannot remeber last time i thought of a financial investmentas being hot & sexy... you may have a point about the generations to come, too, we must think about the environment at some point...

Thanks, GE2. You've been most welcoming!
Tipou, yes, I think we all should participate in recycling and reusing, and I think that's clearly a priority here, with all the posting of pictures. Thanks for not pointing out my typo (of course, that's totally what I meant by "safter"--a combination of "safer" and "cuter"), especially after I so cruelly pointed out your lack of quotation marks regarding the Francostein monster.

Belated welcome , rueful, though we've been playing around for awhile, thanks to Rufus. I can't tell you what Joseph Andrews means to me. I downloaded and listened while I was in a pretty pitiful state post eye surgery last summer. It got me through a tough time so it has a special place in my Rufus collection. See you soon.

Another belated hello! So glad that you decided to join us. I'm a fan of Ruf's Bond readings myself (thank you audible.com) and, like Stephen Fry, he helps me on my vain attempt at some sort of fitness.

Thanks, catdishy. I've really enjoyed the games with you--you are one funny and quick competitor!
I'm sorry you had to have surgery. I hope you've fully recovered. Listening to Ru (and picturing him) reading JA would be the ideal way to pass time if you are confined though. It was so funny, and he's sooooo goood.
Thanks, quoll! I'm really having lots of fun. (Although I guess my frenzied posting will have to slow down eventually. Won't it?)
I swear, a few months of Rufus have done more for my attempts at fitness than years of scolding and warnings by my doctor. Hey, that's given me an idea. Scurries off to create a new thread.
