I was surprised to find that there are quite a lot of copies with the film cover around on amazon.co.uk, even some "very good" or "like new".

Thanks GE2, but as with everything Rufus, I have no patience. I went on Amazon and it linked to Ebay who had the book with the Woodlanders cover, so I bought it, £2.60 - postage free. Not bad. This Rufusitus is proving very expensive for us all I guess, but very worth it. I am buying everything I can get my hands on, dvd's, audio books and now books. Have to say also, some of the older dvd's are quite cheap. I bought Bless the Child on Amazon for £1,03 or roundabout, plus £1.26 postage. It wasn't new but was perfectly ok and I really enjoyed the film. Plus the best bit, it had intervews with the actors!! Rufus is lovely!! Thanks KMK for pointing out the book being available with Rufus on the cover.

Oh I know Zenina, I have been driving round listening to it all week and it is so beautiful, so melodic and sad. Makes me want to watch the Woodlanders yet again. Glad you're enjoying it.

I found it most poignant when he stood at the door to Grace's fathers house not being invited in initially and not being confident enough to go in because he felt inferior to them. That being the thread of the story all the way through really. It was beautifully made and he played it so perfectly. Of course it was so sad when he gave his life for her not to be compromised.! Too heartbreaking for words. you know what? you may have found part of the reason why rufus in not a supermegahyperstar at this point (except for us, of course. i love that movie, and giles is totally mine, you should know that. but i realize that sometimes he nails those painful, or shameful, or hateful human traits so perfectly, and not in a "theatrical" way, that in fact it may be very uncomfortable for some folds to watch. it might be like looking into a mirror too much (looks left aside). that is the problem with most of the greatest unsung character actors. they look too "human", too real, and people want to watch. movies and see stars that are above the human race in one way or another. take his villains: they are only too beleivable sometimes (when the script is good). as opposed to jack nicholson doing the joker in batman, for example. easy to hate jack the joker, he is so over the top you can only boo, throw rocks, and feel better about yourself. but compare jack the joker to albert the bland husband... it is uncomfortable to hate that baddie, because his "badness" is .... only human, the kind of human bad that we are trying to hide from ourself day in and day out. as for giles, he totally broke my heart. such inner frailty, such vulnerable honestly goodness really exists, and is so easily crushed in our world... it may be my favourite rufus role, and i may never be able to watch this movie again, because giles' pain was just... too real. do i make sense or am i silly? i really got a flach when i read your review, robela, and i feel this quite strongly. rufus is "too real" for some movie goers.

And now to Giles. He may not be a highly educated man, but he is honest, hard-working and passionate in his silent way. And although he doesn't have the means or the power to really transcend social boundaries, he doesn't put up with arrogance and condescending behaviour easily... I didn't quite understand why he stayed out in the forest in the rain and cold for so long - didn't he want to make Grace sick? Or was it his pride, not wanting her to see him in such bad shape, trying to hide how bad he was? ph my, kmk, how true that description of giles is. and it almost made me cry because it reminded me how giles is very much like my sweet departed father was. just in constant knowledge of what differentiates good and bad, and still staying as pure and true to his heart and conscience as is possible to be. and being hurt sometimes because being good is not always the easiest way to go in our world... i think giles would stay out because in no way would he compromise his beloved - a married woman! - even if it means that he should die to preserve her honor. remember, this was a very strict and repressed time and place in which to live... and then he would not want to upset her by letting her know how sick he was... just my opinion. your review is superb. you totally got the heart of the movie. than you.

Tipou, I think you described in beautiful words what we all adore in Rufus - his perfect acting! You hit the nail on the head, I don't know how to express this otherwise! - Needless to say that Giles is also one of my all time favourites.....
