Hi, I've just been reading about the terrible fires in Australia. I hope all our friends Down Under are ok and not affected by them.

Thanks for thinking of us. So far so good here - we have had a fortnight in the high 30s and yesterday hit 40 but we are hoping for the cool change which hit Vic last night to be heading our way this evening. So far no fires here (touch wood) but we are vulnerable especially once the wind gets going.
Victoria has been really hard hit - 26 dead so far and several towns razed to the ground. It's still very touch and go down there and the danger is far from over especially if the winds build up again.
Meanwhile half of Queensland is under water from monsoonal flooding. Just another happy Summer in Australia huh!

That sounds devastating! Nature's wrath can be incredible. I'm glad you're safe and pray that you and your loved ones remain that way.

Quoll, I can relate to the wildfire issue, and I hope they do come to an end soon, or that you get enough rain so that it becomes irrelevant....I'm in San Francisco, CA and we haven't had any rain to speak of, so we're going to be in the same situation in a few months as well.
Hope you and your family stay safe and sound!

Keep safe, Quoll. Those temps must be unbearable without the added hazard of fire and monsoon. Hope it all calms down very soon.

Thanks folks - over 130 dead now and rising as they clear out small hamlets and find cars on the roads. Unfortunately some fires are still burning but hopefully people will clear out ahead of time now and not try and defend. Our organization has offered support - probably wont be needed as Vic is pretty good but who knows how long they can continue for - so I may be off there to help out. We did it here 5 years ago when the western side of town was razed and we lost 500 homes and 4 lives. I hate fires, Mother Nature's wrath at its peak. Rugirl, I hope your forest management is better than ours - you guys should be backburning now and hopefully getting rid of some of the fuel. Lets hope too you dont have any scum of the earth arsonists with their handy little boxes of matches either!

I can't believe someone would set a fire like that....sick people.
I'll do a rain dance for you.

It's just awful. I didn't realize people were being overtaken by the fires as they attempted to flee. My thoughts and prayers are with you as well.
I think our forest management is pretty much a mess in this country, too. There are competing views on how best to approach it, and they mostly bicker about it politically rather than actually taking comprehensive action.
