I watched this for the first time just a few moments ago. Checked it out from the library. It was a little slow moving at first, but then it picked up. Loved the action. I loved the part where he rescues Kitty and has her ride his board with him. Lucky girl getting to be so close to him. I think I would die! The concern he showed for the lives of his team was touching. And his accent! Very sexy. His voice is music to my ears.

This is the first Rufus movie I watched when I began seeking them out, because it was available to watch on-line at Netflix. I have to admit, I really enjoyed it in spite of the fact that there wasn't much of a plot. I enjoyed the interactions between Rufus and the blonde skiier, particularly the scene where she was drunk and vulnerable and he was such a gentleman. And I thought his reaction to her actually wearing her medal was priceless. And of course, the gorgeousness of Rufus!
I guess you can judge the extent to which this movie is esteemed by the fact that several copies are available used on Amazon for .01 plus shipping. I think it's certainly worth having for the Rufus parts, though!

i watched this little movie last night... not entirely bad, but, let's face it, i wouldn't have watched it if there was not any rufus watching to do. and i could bet that rufus would not have made it if there had not been some rufus bills to pay.
good points: directed by a genuine quebecois director who happens to know the girlfriend of a friend of mine, which puts me at 3rd degree from rufus according to the system put in place by the kevin bacon oracle, the beloved rufus/rupert comedy team as seen also in Charles II
bad points: lame story, pretext to extreme sports performances of which i am not a big fan, only view of naked back-side is not rufusian, nor event rupertian, majority of actors are, well, not very good, rufusian love interest has the facial expression of a radish, while she should be overjoyed and praying god for her luck; and, no, skying on the top of a train at the end does not qualify
rufus cuteness factor: 8 out of ten
the joke at the beginning with ian answering his cel phone while hanging by a thread over a waterfall in his kayak was priceless, rufuS is cute throughout, gets the girl, but is tragically very warmly dressed from beginning to end. same clothing unfortunate continuity befalls to rupert.
i am not being serious, because, frankly, this is not a high point in rufus sewell's career. not that he is bad, even in this big poster of a film directed to over-hormoned teenagers, he does a decent job. rupert, on the other end, is too much of a buffoon. i enjoyed the scene where rufus holds him over the ledge of a building by his feet to convince him to mind his own business. must have been fun to make. for rufus, i mean.
fun to watch anyway, and i certainly will enhance my rufus collection of close-up photos.

Well...no - Clarkson, for instance!

you've gotta point. there IS an exception to every rule. Clarkson was among his most engaging roles, but he shined with his soul rather than with his "sewell".
i am so funny i could slap myself.

oh and to follow up my review posted earlier today, i might add that IMDB has an extended list of gaffes that would make our gaffe squad green with envy. and i have not noticed any of those. now THAT is rufus power.

lizap, thanks for mentioning the netflix thing. I wouldn't have gone out of my way, but if it's available that way, I might try it.

rueful, I noticed recently that it was taken off my 'instant' list, so I guess it is no longer available to view that way. I've noticed that some of their 'instant' movies have a notation, 'available for viewing until such and such date'. Sorry to have gotten your hopes up!

Oh, that's ok. Like I said, it's not one I was really keen on. I'm not big on action movies anyway, so I'd probably just fast forward to the rufus scenes anyway (when tipou is around I have to be careful about using the term "rufus parts." sends her into a frenzy). If it turns up as instant again, I'll go for it. Thanks.

Just answering myself to say, somebody's posted it on youtube. (When I saw that, I actually said, "YES!, " aloud, like I was a teenager in a sports movie. I am so far gone...) So, for those of us who are too embarrassed to actually be seen renting it: www.youtube.com/watch?v=ysCMES_Zv3oI might have the slightest pangs of conscience about Rufus losing money this way, but since very good used copies are selling for literally 1 CENT on Amazon, I think it's ok. I fast forwarded quite a bit of the action (although taking care to watch the rescue scene mentioned by anniebanani above), but I loved the drunk scene that lizap described. Basically, I could quote tipou's entire excellent review, which was pretty much my exact reaction, except increasing Rufus's cuteness rating to 9.5, for the drunk skiier scene as well as when he puts his arm protectively around the skiier while they are hang gliding (obviously she has fallen on her head at some point, because at first she refuses). Tipou said: Is it too late to join the queue?

I'm so glad you were able to see this, rueful. Can people get in trouble for posting whole works on YouTube? I hope not, because where Rufus is concerned, I think it's a great service to humanity.
I must have fallen on my head, too, at some point, because I watched this again the other day and liked it just as much the second time. ;D I enjoy the scenery, and the exuberance of the young athletes, and Rufus' affectionate shepherding of them, and the heroic escape, and his adorable response to those recurring phone calls ('Stace' clearly needs her head examined, too).

Lizap, things on youtube seem to be safe if they're broken up into parts of a certain length, although I have seen things taken down for "violation of terms of use," which I assume to mean copyright. But I wasn't kidding when I said used copies of this movie are going for a penny, so I don't know who'd complain about it.
I'm glad you liked it so much. It's clearly meant just to be fun, and there's nothing wrong with that. However, if I were going to watch again, I'd probably just skim to the Rufus parts. And I agree about Stace. Some women just have no sense.

Agree with you 100%, tipou! I bought this dvd for less than four bucks on amazon and got it today. Rufus had his moments and looked gorgeous as always, but if he hadn't been in it, I wouldn't have given it a second glance. Not a bad film if you're just looking for some fun escapism but not one I would consider one of Rufus' best. I also ordered "Dangerous Beauty" which will hopefully arrive by Tuesday or Wednesday. I guess I should refer to it by the original title, "The Honest Courtesan" since Rufus makes his disdain for the title change very clear in the "Dark City" extras. Poor guy actually shudders when he says the "American" title!
