Welcome to lizap and singingbarman fan! Nice to have more people on board. I haven't seen the JA miniseries but I've read McCullogh's book, and he wasn't a fan of Hamilton, so I guess the series reflects that.

Thank you for the kind welcome, rueful and peach! I am kind of in a daze taking it all in right now, but I assume my life will return to some degree of normalcy at some point in the future (or maybe not?).
A huge 'thank-you' to those devoted fans who have made all of this priceless Rufus material available to the rest of us!

Lizap, life as you once knew it will be just a sad or happy memory, there is no turning back, indeed, welcome to the mad house, where the inmates run things. Have fun.
There are some symptoms to be wary of, shortness of breath and unexplainable (is that even a word) heat sensations, nothing serious mind you, it's all a part of the crazyness. You can seek out RA (Rufus Anon) but that won't be much help to you I'm affraid, and I've heard of interventions that well shall we say left both parties none too worse for wear. But the heck with that, just have a good time and know you are among friends.

I was at Wal-Mart doing some late night shopping and found the dvd of this movie front and center in the $5 rack and of course, had to grab it! Alas, it is not the extended version, which I just now found out about while reading the other posts, so no shirtless scene. Guess I'll have to hunt down a copy. Bless you, robbiesheik, for posting that steamy pic a couple of pages back!
I had no idea what to expect from this movie but I enjoyed it more than I thought I would. The modern music threw me a little at first but it quickly grew on me. Loved the cast, especially Paul Bettany and Alan Tudyk, an actor I've been fond of since "Firefly". And of course, Rufus; I certainly can't forget him! Once again, a great villian, but I think I'll be taking a little break from the villianous roles for a time, although I stand by my statement in a different thread that I think he would make a fantastic Bond bad guy! Maybe it's just me, but the scene where he's encamped on the front lines, all wet and muddy, his curls plastered to his head, a streak of blood on his cheek, he is very sexy in that scene! I don't know why that scene in particular made me grab the remote and hit pause, it just did! I admit it. I'm a little odd sometimes!
I do understand why people who were expecting a more true-to-life depiction of the time period wouldn't like this movie but, as has been mentioned, I think it was meant more as just a fun movie than any real portrayal of medieval times. It did make me want to go back and read "Canterbury Tales", which I haven't read since I was a senior in high school, something I'm ashamed to admit since I have a BA in English.
I've basically gone on a Rufus spending spree this evening; before going to Wal-Mart, I spent about $65 at amazon.com on three Rufus dvds--"Dark City" "Illuminata" and a dvd of various actors performing the works of Shakespeare. I don't know how much Rufus is in the last one but I figure a dvd of talented actors doing Shakespeare is worth getting.

would you care to give more details on this last one please? please? Plenty of Rufus. www.roofsewell.com/TotS.htmThe bit with Rufus is a modernized remake of the Taming of the Shrew in which he plays Petruchio. it's great fun and much beloved by Rufus fans. The set is called Shakespeare Retold and is available in nearly every region DVD. I don't think you'd find a single Rufus fan who regrets purchasing it.

What she said! ;D
I thought it was just readings of Shakespeare by different actors which would've been great but now, I'm really excited to get this dvd set! I just read the full description and it sounds absolutely wonderful and I can't wait to see Rufus in TOTS!

Thanks robbieshiek for your post of the shirtless pic! Very nice I must say! And that TOTS.... OMG www.roofsewell.com/TOTS/TOTS005.jpg looking a tad punked up there... I love it! Anyway, I will be renting A Knight's Tale via digital video on demand today. I started to watch it last night, but I was so tired I have to finish up today. So far, I can tell his character is such a nasty bloke. I'm loving it! Can't wait to see the rest of it! I'll post about my thoughts later..... moving on in my reading here now and I'd best grab something to eat before my stomach eats itself. LOL.

LOL. my bf is away for work, has been for a long time, and i keep seeing these pics of ruf, it's tough, i m telling you. anyway, if you have not seen Taming of the Shrew yet, you're in for quite a ride. truly one of the funniest movie i've seen lately, with the tiny and UNBELIEVABLE shirley henderson as the "shrew", but then again, rufus' petruchio is not much better. i could even bring bf to the rufus cult with this one. i ordered it on amazon, only place i could find it, 1 of 4 tv fims by the bbc, named shakespeare retold. well worth your dinero, imho

Well, last night was quite interesting. First I found an 80's digital music channel on my tv which got me dancing and singing while doing dishes. Haven't heard some of those songs for years. Finally, after finishing my chores and watching my Monday shows, I got down to settling in to watching A Knight's Tale, picking up where I left off in the rental (only had it 24 hours so timing was of the esence).
I really enjoyed this movie. I love jousting anyway. Wasn't bored with it in the least! Beats the hell out of hockey anyday. (Geez, am I not a Canadian?) Parts of the movie were hilarious. I laughed my ass off with the punch in the nose during dancing lessons! It was so unexpected it's a wonder I didn't fall off my couch laughing... And the words they were singing were hilarious.
As for "Addie", I hated him immensely! Rufus' performance in this role was so convincing. I loved it! Often I find myself very drawn to dark characters, as I have posted elsewhere here (such as Jason Isaacs in the Harry Potter movies or Rufus' Leopold in The Illusionist) . In this case, no matter how exquisite Rufus is in the looks department, I hated Addie too much to rout for him in any way. Bravo Mr. Sewell! Yet another fine performance!
Edit:.. Oh yeah... forgot to mention: Not long after watching the movie, my building went into a blackout. Everything shut down so I was sitting in the dark. Good timing! Whew!

I bought this movie for $5.00 at Wal-Mart and watched Roof's dark side.
He plays bad very well. Damn good, actually.
During the jousting sences, I was neutral when his character battled Heath's.
Loved Mark Addy in this movie too. I have him in The Thin Blue Line with Rowan Atkinson.
I was only going to watch half the movie and the half later but ended up watching the whole movie and missed a television show. Oh well, Roof is better anyway.
Unfortunaly, this isn't the extended version.
