Maybe you can fill in the bits I couldn't hear. Oops, my comment was about how uncertain my English is, Ginny. I can see only one way to find out the right answer: I am ready to offer a handful of Smarties for the Boy's last line where he speaks about Kant's philosophy and the transcendental knowledge. "Being a person is respect because you’re not a cat or a dog or a bunch of tulips. You’re a human person and humanness is not like something there can be different amounts of. It’s maxed out from the start. Total respect. Every time." What is the mysterious sentence here, at 7:11? Yummy! Who wants the reward? It is a good part anyway, I like the Boy very much. He always finds Emily's things awesome and he is soooo helpful and kind. Look at Stoppard's playfulness - the album starts with heartbeats and noises, that was exactly what the Boy described: "I didn’t have a name. I was a thought experiment. Except I felt my...heart beating. I had a heartbeat. I thought ...hey...here we go. I heard something coming. Whump, whump, whump, whump, like helicopter blades. But knowledge was in me. I knew stuff. I got to be a person." I also like the whole "witchery business". I am almost sure the starting point was the "which is which" phrase from Pink Floyd's Us and Them and it became such spectacular in the radio play. The modern witch burning must be some sort of psychosurgery thing and I understand the meaning of the laser gun very well, but still. Seeing it from the "voices"'s side, the trial, the rescue attempt (what a fantastic idea!), well, the whole stuff is brilliant. Will i lose your all you respect if i tell you that it's easier to make a joke than it is to look up how to spell...that guy's name? Actually I take it as a new proof for my old opinion - humour is the sharpest tool in the shed. I don't think it's about being literal or not. It's more about the freedom of choosing, we can go any direction. You started to build Mr Baggott's character, and I chose to see the whole thing as a one-person play.

I think it says, "Kill one, kill a train of them. You're just seeing the transcendental is all." I think he's saying that Kant would have said that killing one person (by diverting the train) is no different from or better than killing a trainful of people, since all humans have the same value. I have no idea what the bit about transcendental means. I even tried this plato.stanford.edu/entries/kant-transcendental/ but it just made me angry, like reading philosophy usually does. Interesting! You don't even think Dr Antrobus is real? (I hope this doesn't mean that you don't really have any way to get my Smarties from him... ) Edited to say: Amazing! I typed the word angry above, with no codes, and proboards changed it to this face! angry That would be great, but now you'll all think I need to pluck my eyebrows.

Ah! That is not a witty punch line, I am rather disappointed. Emily's response was a "That's amazing", so I have expected something big. But the article you added, Rueful, is big. It is so heavy and fat, it would be tossed over the side, even if the hot air balloon wasn't leaky. ((I like these little articles about Kant's ethics: www.sparknotes.com/philosophy/kant/section2.rhtmlwww.sparknotes.com/philosophy/kant/themes.htmlI think they give a good base.)) I hope I won't make anyone 'angry'. Proboards changes automatically the words '' and '' into smileys as well, so the talk about reading philosophy could be quite enigmatic with all those fun faces...what a pity it is unlikely that those words will be ever used. No, Dr Antrobus and Mr Baggott are real, all right. But for me, this is Emily's play. When I read the last quote, I realised my sentence was meaningless. I corrected the mistake in the original post, I threw that stupid "the" into the dustbin. And it was me who poked fun at an article for being confusing. Ugh. And now let's see the dessert. I wanted a happy ending, so I'll put my laughing smileys here for your jokes, Rueful. That line with the green smiley is hilarious!!! Of course you deserve all sugary treats, stale or not. Thank you for your reply.

Ah! That is not a witty punch line, I am rather disappointed. Emily's response was a "That's amazing", so I have expected something big. It's possible I misinterpreted the three words "you're just seeing"--It was very slurred--but I can't think of anything else he could have been saying that would have been more profound. When Emily said, "That's amazing," maybe she was like many teenage girls, just feeding the boy's ego so he'd ask her out for pizza. Thanks for the links. The sparknotes were very helpful. They did a better job of clearly summarizing and intepreting Kant than philosophy class did. (Or maybe the class itself was ok, and certain students were too busy eating smarties to pay attention.) I think it will be this word, which is easy to spell. zzz Your sentence was clear--I knew you meant "to" instead of "the." I just interpreted you too literally again. This is what I tell myself every day.
