I really want to see "The Queen" too! I thought Helen Mirren did a great job in "Elizabeth I" and I'd really like to see their side of the story of the time after Princess Diana's death. I'm hoping it will open here!

I heard that EII didn't lower the flag to half mast. Is that true?

I heard that EII didn't lower the flag to half mast. Is that true? She did but it took a few days. "On September 6, 1997 a Union Flag flew over Buckingham Palace at half mast. This is the only time that the sovereign's residence has flown a flag at half mast. The purpose of the flag is to illustrate the continuity of the monarchy, so even after the death of a monarch the flag remains at the top of the pole. This is expressed in the age-old proclamation 'The King is dead, long live the King'." www.bbc.co.uk/dna/h2g2/A596027

I've seen it, it was superb. I read that some of the royal minions who no longer work in such circles (it is some 9 years after the event) have said that it is pretty near the bone. My lasting feeling was one of empathy for all concerned, except possibly Phil the Greek. Not wishing to sound flippant, but it showed the human dilemmas of all the main players in this tragedy, but not in a way which was sycophantic to the monarchy itself. That week was history in the making. I am not a royalist at all, but I do believe in the human state and this film got it just right in my opinion.

I like Michael Sheen, and Helen McCroy's in it. When I saw that they are in it, other than Helen Mirren, I was like I have to see it. Plus I was living in England at the time of Diana's death so...

I want to see "300" about the 300 spartans that held off thousands of Persians in a gorge where the bodies they say were 30' high. The trailor was one that made you think "if only the movie is half as good."
Also I have heard that there is a new movie coming up called "Eragon" which some are saying is supposed to be "Lord of the Rings" on steroids. We shall see.

My teacher wants us to see that. I'm taking Classics as one of my courses so she's going to make it extra credit.

I hope they don't romanticize it too much. That would be terrible if they did. Judging by the trailer, it looks like it'll be a summer movie and again judging by the trailer it looks liked the Sci-Fied it a bit...if you know what I mean.

It also looks like it would make a great video game - I wonder if they have one planned?

I'm taking DH to see Mrs Palfrey at the Claremont today (he doesnt know that yet, he thinks he is going to see Al Gore!). It has really good reviews and is apparently a pleasant little movie. Anyone seen it yet?

Yes "300" is sci-fied up & video game looking. It has a very unique quality in the cinematography & could be promising. Hope it is faithful to the story because it would be a great way to teach a piece of history in a way that will be remembered & enjoyed. I have only seen the previews in the theater & it looks awesome.
Quoll I haven't heard anything about Palfrey. Can you let me know what it is about & give it a thumbs up or down?

I want to see APOCOLYPTO.. it looks great and I like Gibsons filmmaking .. its a pity about his opinions though.. I was impressed that he was more interested in what the people whom he portrays thinks more than the film industry or Hollywood/weird thinks.
