I have been watching Rufus's interviews and films alot just lately. The one thing that underlies most of it, in my opinion, is his humanity. He said himself in an interview regarding EH that it was the humanity of the character that made him want to play the part. I think this is something that is important to Rufus in his own life. Please forgive me if this is something that has already been discussed but I have to get this off my chest!! I think he is a very sweet and loving person that is also very sensitive and intelligent, that cares a great deal about the issues in the world today. I can imagine that when the chance came up to play Dr. Jacob Hood, he must have jumped at it...what a great way to express how you feel, although acting, still an outlet for expression of true thought and feeling. I have never met Rufus...maybe one day I will (if I wander around London long enough!!), because I would love to sit down with him and discuss the world and his thoughts on things. I am an undergraduate of Ecology and Conservation, so Eleventh Hour really interests me issues wise and I sense from Rufus that he has an interest in what really goes on; I'd love to talk to him and hear his opinions, along with the sense of humour that he has, I would be in my element!!!!

Hi Kate, Don't let that interview break your heart, all Rufus was saying is that he enjoys playing different roles and that he feels he needs to have more variation. That seems very understandable...why go over the same old ground? You never move forward if you don't vary your life and experiences....it is an important element to remember in my opinion. I try to live my life that way too, keeping myself busy and doing different things, meeting different people. Never look back I say..always look forward to what else may be possible...you never know where it may take you!! One day, Rufus will not play Dr. Jacob Hood anymore but the experience of it will be remembered always..a great experience that he related to because as I say, his own humanity shines through in this character. I believe that he enjoys the role, not just because of the position that this kind of exposure puts him in professionally, but because of the nature of the role. Dr. Jacob Hood seems to fit him like a glove...natural and real.
I very much look forward to his next roles...he'll surprise us all no doubt with what he is capable of and I will very much enjoy seeing this multi-faceted actor stun me in to silence once again!!!

This is so bizarre. This weekend just gone i was having a chat with my uncle who's from Cambridge. He was telling me stories of his wild youth and mentioned that he was friends with the guys from pink Floyd. He mentioned that as they grew older they would stay in touch and have wild parties at someones mansion on the outskirts of Cambridge (think it was Syd's)Anyway he was telling me about this guy called Syd, and how he ended up riding a bicycle around Cambridge, as his appearance had changed so much, people didn't know who he was. So I'm sitting there listening and my uncles now on his eighth pint of beer reminiscing on the good old days and I'm thinking to myself this name sounds so familiar? So i googled him on my mobile and showed a pic to my uncle who confirmed the pics were of Syd. Its not until Ive just read this interview and thought omg now i know why i recognize the name!

That is an odd coincidence maz.
I too had a small thing happen whilst reading that interview. The university that I go to (Anglia Ruskin, Cambridge) is where Syd Barrett and Dave Gilmour studied. Syd was a very good artist and 2 months ago, we had an exhibition in our art department/gallery of Syd's work. He was a very gifted artist. I believe towards the end of his life he did just ride around Cambridge on his bike and go shopping in Sainsburys like everyone else and no one knew who he was.

So you live in Cambridge and are from London? I'm from Cambridge and live in London. I am from East London and have lived all around London over the years. I ended up in Hampton Hill, just before moving away to Lincolnshire for 5 years, then down to Cambs. I now live in a village outside of Cambridge but I go in to the city to study. I visit London often to see family and friends but I don't think I could live there again, I have got too used to the peace and quiet!!

Yes maz, I understand that. I love Cambridge, it's a great city, especially by Kings College Chapel. I have been to listen to Kings College choir a good few times (I love music). It is the one city that I feel very much at home in and I always have a good time when I am there. I think if I keep a balance between London and Cambridge, I will be happy! ...and I am happy today because I found a photo in the gallery that I had been looking for for years!! It's amazing how much time flew by whilst looking through them all, plus I found a few others that just took my breath away....my god, the man is beautiful..I'm going to make my new found photo my avatar!
Just to add, I think this site is great, the best Rufus info that I have come across.
