Numbat, you had me laughing so hard it brought tears to my eyes.
We think soooo much alike.
I also don't care if it's in the forest or standing up in a hammock during a wind storm. I WANT SEX! And I don't care WHO initiates it - I WANT SEX!
I don't want to blink and it's over and done with. If I want to watch "quick as a bunny" I'll tune into Animal Planet.
I want to KNOW I "need" a cigarette AFTER - even if I don't smoke!

OMG! LOL In my view this is a dangerous idea to express here, seeing how many of us have had enough of just "morning after escenes"!!!!!!!! ;D And what is the new audience who comes from the TPOTE site going to think?!!!!

I can't tell you how very dissapointed I am that those KEY early moments in the story have (reportedly) been changed in the movie. They truly set much of the tone and foundation for the rest of book and I can't really fathom there being near the same emotional intensity to the story without them. Tom had delivered their baby and tended to the mother with such love and tenderness, it established an integral part of his character and was a real demonstration of his deep love for his wife. Which imparted more meaning to his grief, shock and temporary lapse of judgement later on...his coming out of his despairing stupor with the cold realization of what he had done and frantic attempt to save the baby... That love scene should not have been changed/omitted for many reasons. It really displayed the foggy grief Tom was under, and the love was a balm for his soul as well as his body. It was as meaningful as it was sexy, especially given that the love-starved seductress had at least the decency to wait until he was, albeit because of a sad tragedy, uh, finally available. As far as it goes, Tom hardly had a choice...it was like a dream to him, and she, along with nature, took over. It reads so beautifully and, truly, so cinematically, that I still cannot BELIEVE they may not shoot this. What a waste! A poignant (sp?), moonlit, earthy-green misty dreamy ethereal sweet woodland love scene left out of a period piece? Why? They better come up with something good! What would The Woodlanders be without that touching love/death scene in the end? (I did consider it a love scene as she had finally, all though all too late, followed her heart, and was with him body and soul, in the end) It was heartbreakingly beautiful, and the nature all around heightened and was a factor in the drama. Similar elements make up the those two key scenes from Pillars. They will be sorely missed. (Not to mention it was the perfect set up for the scene where they spy the babe all safe with the brothers.) Well, I'll stop my whining, and I'm sorry if I'm boring you. It's just hard to hear two of your very favorites scenes may be altered/eliminated. For those that feel the same way, I suppose we should take heart that it seems Ken Follett is closely involved in the project. He wouldn't let them change the best (imho) part of the novel without reworking that part in a robust, sensible way, now would he? I think he has the clout to demand that his artistic vision is not obliterrated. One hopes.

I'm sure Follett would love for his novel not to be changed, but his book was after all 900+ pages long and some parts had to go. I really don't mind them "dropping" scenes as long as it does not affect the plot of the novel, but I HATE it when they change things around. In this movie they had the mother kill her husband so that her son could be an earl (sorry, forgot some of the names), which did not happen in the novel. I'm sure there's lots more changes.
Hoping they include at least ONE love scene with Tom and Ellen.

I am sure they have love scenes with Tom and Ellen. I do not think Rufus would take a script that really left him with no gentle scenes. The story line I read was that those scenes would be less swift and erotic but would occur slower and with more tenderness. I am okay with that. I think a man who shows some grief and loves slower is actually more believable.

Now keeping in mind that this is THE SPOILER THREAD, don't read this if you don't want to have a major, major part of the plot well, um, spoiled!!!
**************************************************************************************************
Anyhow, stumbled upon David Oakes twitter account and thought i would go back to last year to see if he had anything to say about filming TPOTE (ok, well to see if he had anything to say about Rufus!!!).
David Oakes of course plays William Hamleigh, chief murderer, rapist and all round bad guy and amongst lots of other stuff he said THIS!!!!!
That sux!!!! So poor Tom copped it officially on July 14 - how sad.
I hope TPOTE doesn't have that poignant music like T&I or i'm going to be sobbing from the opening scene knowing what's going to happen eventually!

Rufluvr, you nailed it perfectly that whole scene in the book was so beautifully described, as fo rthe sexy stuff.......well, let's just hope that perhaps those scenes might still be filmed. It was a wonderful book, it had me in the first couple of pages, I couldn't put it down. Will look forward to seeing the finished and final project.
