Oh, .......... !!!!! In my most humble/heart felt and yet straight forward opinion, I disagree with this article. After JB saw Rufus in R'nR he was able to bring Ruf on board with EH. And that is where I first "discovered" Rufus, this completely talented genius. Many times I have uttered the prayer, "God bless JB". Perhaps without his foresight, I would never have been exposed to such talent, the experience of Ruf's immeasurable abilities, and all of the super fan-girlies on this board !!!!!!!

Oh, don't get me wrong! I'm VERY grateful that Bruckheimer cast Rufus in Eleventh Hour. I wouldn't trade getting to see him every Thursday night on my TV screen for one season for anything!
But you must admit that Bruckheimer's programs (his TV shows in particular) can be rather cookie-cutter. And we all know what sorts of scripts Rufus had to try to redeem. His performances were the best thing about the show.

Judy, yes I do agree that some of his shows are rather predictable. I think that EH would have been so much better if Stephen Gallagher (sp?) had written the episodes, or at least had the creative control over them. But just being able to see Rufus in a current production every week.. what a treat that was!! From last April when the final episode of EH was shown, to this July when "Pillars" will be shown...that's 13 very, very, very long months. Not good for our fan-girlie psyche. Why wasn't this malady covered in our new so called health care bill

That was great, Judy. I agree with everything gawker.com said & I could add pages and pages. You all know how much I thought EH sucked, despite Rufus looking great in HD every week.
And all that being said, I do love Jeremy Northam and pity him for being on Miami Medical, which will no doubt also suck, but I do love looking at him.

Edited to say, thanks for posting this, Judy. It's so true. He seems to be ruining things for quite a number of my heroes, Clive Owen in King Arthur, and now Jeremy Northam. I am just glad that Rufus escaped after a not too long time.

Rai, did you say Jeremy Northam will be on that new show? Will he be playing it with his English accent or American? I agree with what many have said about EH, especially your quotes that it "sucked", it could have been sooooo much better considering the talent pool and production values. The original CSI series was good, but was that because of William Petersen? Bruckheimer seems to have the midas touch where tv series goes, Ruf got a raw deal with EH. I don't think that CBS was ever really behind it. So much the better for us where Ruf is concerned, with many projects set. Thanks Judy for posting.

He got into American TV which is the most important factor - I was dreadfully disappointed with the series but I am glad about the new one and all his upcoming work that this may have hampered.
..............because, the writing was not worthy of him - they did not deserve him!

Tinkerdog, no arguements there. The premise was good but the writing was soreley lacking and quite inferior to the vast talent attached to the show. There are two really excellent cable shows that are so good, both are 1/2 hour shows and loaded with talent. The first is Nurse Jackie with among others, Edie Falco in the lead, so good, and the second is In Treatment with one of my fave actors, Gabriel Byrne. They are the quickest half hour shows going. The reason? Aside from the talent involved, is the writing. I think they may be aailable on sites like hulu, or to purchase from Amazon. In a way I'm glad EH was cancelled, only for the fact that he's doing other projects worthy of his talent. I wonder if it was his choice to Americanize his accent, I have read that Jeremy Northam is using his own accent. That kind of bothered me week to week, Ruf has such a wonderful voice and the fact that is was masked took somehting away from his performance.

Peach, he said in a couple of interviews that he did want to use an American accent. One is here: dishmag.com/issue86/celebrity/8518/science-fact-rufus-sewell-stars-in-eleventh-hour/“For me, the idea of playing a character in a long-running American series, hopefully, obviously use elements of your personality, but for me always I like to play characters, whatever hook I can get into them,” explains Sewell. “I love doing accents, for example, whatever, just things that make me someone else. And Jacob Hood, having an American—distinct American voice, takes me into a different register. It makes me feel like someone else.”On the other hand: www.bullz-eye.com/television/interviews/2008/rufus_sewell.htmBE: Was it your decision or the producers’ decision to go with the accent that you use in the show?
RS: Oh, anything I do is only ever my decision. Any decision you make, you can’t…I mean, even if it’s a producer’s decision and you say, “Yes, okay,” it’s still your decision. So, yeah, it was mine. But, also, it’s what they wanted, and it’s what came to me with the offer: an American accent. But, still, taking it was my decision.

Spice and Peach...I agree. I did enjoy EH very much and enjoyed Rufus in it. Love that Jacob Hood. That is also where I discovered him so I will always be grateful to the show. I think Mr Gallagher had a season two of EH already written so I am sure it would have been better given the chance.
My question is...how did Rufus get the part of Jacob Hood...was he seen by JB in R/R? Did he win the role out or was he the one they had in mind to play JH? Does anyone know? Just curious..
Anyway...Iam now a lifetime fan of Rufus...and all his work... thanks to an 18 episode season of a JB production (not that I am crazy about all of his productions).

GE2, thanks for that, still not happy with that choice, I missed the musicality of his voice and the timbre. That and the poorly written scripts were disappointing for me. It could have been so much better.

The premise of the series was so good, so,.... throwing the cat amongst the pigeons and maybe amid accusations of Chauvinism ,.... I can't help wondering how it would have turned out if it had been made by the Beeb or a Brit company. So much talent and good features just thrown on the scrap heap. The LA suits have a lot to answer for . We viewers just don't seem to matter.. either that or they think we are plain stupid

Granada/ITV didn't extend the original 4 Patrick Stewart episodes though. At least CBS made a full 18 episode series before pulling it.
Has anyone seen the british version - how does it compare?

With the greatest respect for the lovely Patrick Stewart , he is not Rufus and I was referring to the updated series with Rufus.
