Ok, ok. As if we haven't had enough upheaval around here what with losing all of our July posts and TPOTE starting and Gloria meeting Rufus again etc etc, so i've decided to slightly change the 2010 Birthday Card Project!!
My reasoning behind the change, is purely because there are a lot more people who want to participate this year. Now don't get me wrong, the more the merrier i say, but the larger amount of people causes it's own problems ie,
a) There is less chance of the card getting to Rufus in time for his birthday
b) There is more chance of it getting lost in the mail along the way
c) It's harder to design an effective travel route and make sure every person is available to sign it when it arrives at their house (ie, that they aren't away etc etc)
d) It's harder to make sure there is enough room in the card for everyone to sign - obviously the people at the beginning have much more room available than the people at the end!!!
So for those reasons, i've decided to amend it just slightly, so instead of the card travelling around the world, i would like you all to send your birthday greetings to me, and then i will compile them all into the card and send it to London for it to be hand delivered to Rufus's agent.
I hope you don't mind this change too much, but this way we can make sure everyone has enough room for what they want to say and we are more likely to get it to him in time for his birthday.
Given that we did it the other way last year, i figured we could try it this way for this year and then decide for next year which gave the better result.
But along with the new plan comes some new rules!!! Sorry to have to lay down the law like this, but i want everyone to have the same understanding of how this is going to work. Please don't take offence to anything i might say, because i'm quite sure none of you would consider some of the things that i'm going to mention, but i just thought it was better to lay the groundwork upfront so there are no misunderstandings along the way!!!
So:
a) Each message is to be on a piece of card (coloured or white) no larger than 10cm x 15cm. If your message is any larger than this it won't be included in the card.
b) Your message can be anything you like (artwork, poem, photo of yourself etc etc) but PLEASE understand that this is a birthday card and so your message should be a birthday type greeting of some sort - it's not a chance to tell your life story, express your undying love or anything similarly embarassing.
c) I will not include your message in the card if it is offensive or if it contains contact details for yourself (ie address, email, etc etc).
d) All messages are to reach me by no later than Sep 15. I'd suggest sending them by express mail of some sort to make sure they get to me on time. This will give me enough time to make the card and get in to London in time for his birthday.
e) If you have already said that you want to be included in the project, i will PM you my address in the next couple of days. I'm sure i can rely on you all to keep it to yourself!!!
So that's it. I hope i didn't sound too bossy, but it's always best to get these things out in the open so we avoid any arguments down the track.
On a final note i just want to say this. I firmly believe the reason that last years card was a success (in that he read it and responded), was that it was a simple birthday card. Easy to look at, quick to read. Rufus is just not a big "fan mail" type of guy, and he won't want to be faced with trawling through pages and pages of long love letters. It's for this reason that i've placed a restriction on the size of the message and also asked for them to be birthday greetings. I don't want him thinking of me as the freaking loony who organises the "book of love"!!!
Oh, one final point. I intend to make the card black this time around, with teal green highlights (think Tom Builder's black hair and teal green tunic!!!). The pages will also be black, so you might like to do your messages on coloured card as a contrast to the black background. But that's up to you - white card will also be fine!!!
So, over to you ladies - i'm looking forward to seeing all of your wonderful messages!!! ;D
