You know, when I capped this, I didn't find it as bad as I remembered. Yeah it's corny and silly with it's demons, but Roof is clearly having fun. And he's not bad in it, in a mustache twirling sort of way.
He's so pretty and so charming, and so evil. Just what I would expect from a minion of satan. And everyone else is so dull. I mean don't they deserve it?
I love how he charmed his way through shooting up his wife, trying to convince the child to set the bum on fire then doing it himself... it was just fun. He was fun. And so apologetic for it all as if he can't quite help himself.
It's not one of his great roles, but it's not bad.

This movie always seems to get trashed on other sites and I quite liked it. Rotten Tomatoes only gives it a 5% rating which is even lower than Extreme Ops and his lowest rated movie on that site. I don't think it deserves it. I feel it's on par with Dark City if not better. I thought Ruf did a great job with the role and I really enjoyed the storyline.

On par with Dark City??!! Scarilege, I tell you. Sacrilege! But it is at least as good a Extreme Ops. The problem isn't Rufus in either of these pictures. It's the other actors. Though Rupert Graves is pretty amusing in EO.

Bless This Child isn't in my top 10 at all...........but I didn't dislike it! I thought Rufus did evil very well......and by that I mean true evil, but just a bad guy. I found the story interesting, although I got bored here and there. Kim Basinger did a good job with what she was given, in my opinion (and I'm not normally a fan of hers). Rufus seemed especially gorgeous in this film.......maybe to show us that evil can be very alluring? LOL

Okay, all of these positive comments have convinced me that I have to see this one.
I think the problem I have with making myself rent it is that I saw Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers video of "Mary Jane's Last Dance" one time too many. It was on so often that got sick of seeing Kim Basinger.

This movie is one of my least favorite Rufus movies, but having said that I do think it had a good story line. I haven't watched it in a long time but I remember a scene where Rufus as Eric Stark shows some compassion and fondness for the child -- I won't spoil it for Pen by describing the scene -- which I found to lighten the villainy in him somewhat. Is it my imagination or did anyone else get that feeling? Every time I see Rufus as a villain I look for some redeeming characteristic in his portrayal of the bad guy and usually find it. His portrayal of each character has so many dimensions.

No, I don't want to spoil it for you, Pen. When you get a chance to see it, see if you feel that his character has just that little bit of heart that redeems him ever so slightly. I've seen it in every one of his villains so far. But I just read what Uke wrote about The Holiday and it seems that role may be the first where I won't like Rufus!

I don't know that I saw Eric has having a heart..........what I saw was pure evil done in a way to entice others to it. You have to make evil look good or no one would ever be tempted! I saw a coldness to him, yet he had to reach out to get the child to do what he wanted. The way he gives his wife the drugs is cold and unfeeling (at least that's how I saw it) but he is gentle with her. Again, I didn't see this as him having a heart........just the opposite, he didn't have one at all........but there was something about him that made you think twice. I still think that has more to do with trying to show that evil can be enticing and alluring. But that's just how I saw it. Michelle

Well put, Michelle. I'll have to watch the movie again. As I said, it's been a long time. But I remember being struck by the way he folded the child in his arms and the look on his face as he did so. It almost seemed a look of relief that he saved her at the last moment. It was only that one scene and it was very brief, but that was the feeling I got. I agree, the remainder of the film he was cold-hearted. And if he was trying to portray evil as enticing and alluring, he succeeded with me! The hallmark of a fine actor, to be so convincing.

I don't like scary movies, but this one was not too bad. I can't stand his American accent though...just...bleh. The girl was adorable though.
