Has anyone actually seen it? I'm thinking it may be a good New Year's resolution to try and find a copy of this and distribute it amongst ourselves. Plus, I love the name 'Mike Costain', that just sounds teh awesome.

I have a copy on VHS, Uke. I think it's VHS or maybe PAL, or maybe I have both. Since I have an all region VCR, it didn't seem to matter. I don't even remember how I got it. It's very good, actually. Also, I don't have copying capabilities, but I'd be happy to send it to someone who does. Even better if that person could put it on a DVD. Let me know. Rai

I'd love to see this one, too, Uke. The last time I tried to find a copy I had no luck. If I'm thinking of the right one, I read a review that said Rufus gave an outstanding performance (but then we all know he always does!) This is the film that takes place in a college setting, right?

Add me to the roster........No I have never seen it, only a few pictures from that now unaccessible site that I believe Rufus put up himself. Do you remember? about 18 months ago the site had numerous pages of all his films with with individual shots of every sceen. The preliminary page listed the site ownership as Rufus'. Who knows? I actually was incredibly impressed that he/someone listed it. There were tons of professional photos, street photos, opening night shots. Then it disappeared.

Tinkerdog, that website wasn't by Rufus, it was EMS and it was made by my friend Minx. She had to take it down over copyright issues with photo agencies.

Okay, before we all get carried away here, if I tell you that this will be a region free dvd and you'll have to have a region free player (or computer) to play it, how many of you still want it? Message me privately please. In fact I think this entire discussion should move under the cut. Uke? Don't you agree?

I'm going to resurrect this thread because I love Rufus in this. He's so angry and young and bright, it's really fun to watch. It's not a huge role and he loses some subtlty but it's really fresh and different. I'd like see him do something like it now. We probably won't see anything like it for a while since all of Rufus' roles seem to be a backlash to the last one and he seems to be in his kind gentle phase right now.

I would love to see this, but only have an All Region DVD Player not Pal/VHS. Anyone have the DVD?

I have to watch it again. I was too tired the first time. I absolutely engaged until then end and then realized I forgot to turn my mind on - see what current US film can do to a person? It is very clever and intelligent - something we are becoming very unused to.
Yet again, Rufus is starring with a very strong cast of very talented actors. I may be wrong but he has not been in a film yet without major league actors - I forgive Antonio Banderas for Zorro 2, I did it for the Money.

I really really like Alan Cumming. Like Rufus he has a sort of sweet engaging quality. He's one of the high points (other than shirtless Hugh of course) for me in X2. And I adore Ian Holm because be reminds me of my Scottish Grandmother who has been gone for several years now. They somehow look alike. It's very odd.
I'll quibble with the last statement merely because I think Rufus has been in films with more major league actors than most. But I'll take your point to mean he hasn't been in films with major league celebrities. Of course there is The Holiday.

I'm just watching it now, and I think Rufus is just sensational as Mike Costain. Definitely wish he'd do something like this. Its quite an interesting film, apart from Rufus, super cast all around.

I found a nice little diary entry by a bit-part actor on TLR, on what looks like to be a "dead" site devoted to Rufus: It was always rather exciting when ever my agent phoned with a job. You never knew what production she was going to put you in or what stars you would meet along the way. It must have been Spring 1991 when she rang me and said do I want to have a small part in a film called 'Q'. She said it stars Ian Holm and Leo McKern.
I decided to accept the job. I would appear in the film as one of the students and would be in several scenes. Basically the film was about Cambridge University in the 1960's and was based around the study of English verse.
On the first day it was the usual thing. Arrive at 6.00am have breakfast from the catering van then go into make up and get that days clothes on, then hang around for hours doing nothing until the crew were ready for the first shoot.
The first couple of scenes we filmed was myself and a few others walking through the grounds protesting and chanting 'We haven't got a dean we've got a nazi' or something like that. Then we had to confront Ian Holm who was a teacher, with an argument on a stair case.
But the guy who told us what to chant was not a director but one of the protesters! He seemed rather upset that he had to tell us what to do himself and not some Director! Anyway we filmed this section all day. In between takes I chatted to him, he was a nice bloke.
I did not know him, at this point I did not know it was Rufus Sewell.
When we had lunch we all sat on the grass and soaked up the sun. Ian Holm kept himself to himself in his trailer. But Rufus sat with us on the grass and chatted to us. I remember him telling me that he had just finished a film were he had to snog Patsy Kensit. So as time went on I realised that he was an up and coming actor. He was very down to earth. He liked his smoke in between takes and I remember thinking that he had a great voice.
So through out the 2 weeks working on the film I spoke to him quite a few times, just general chit chat. When I actually saw the film on television which I think was the following January I did not realise how much of a big part he had. He did say that 'Q' was just the working title and it would probably be released as 'The Last Romantics'. Little did I know that one day Madonna would want to go out with him or that he would date Kate Winslet! I did this kind of work from 1991 to 1994 the last one being Eastenders. Then I knocked it on the head because I was fed up with all the waiting around on sets. Very boring! But a couple of weeks ago I phoned my old agent and told her I would not mind doing some more work. So I am now back on the books. Anyway Rufus was a good bloke!
