Since I'm having trouble finding a lot of Rufus' films on Region 1 DVD, I thought I'd start a new topic...
I know there's over an hour and a half of stuff missing from The Last King...sigh.
I'd also like to compare any of the other films. Are there enough differences in those to have both R1 and R2?

Last King running time is 188 minutes - Charles ll running time is 240 minutes.
There also seem to be 2 versions of Hamlet floating around. The vhs is advertised as having 232 minutes and the region 2 pal dvd is advertised as 112 minutes. I have only seen the dvd on ebay and amazon does not even list it on dvd so it could be a burnt copy. There was a website devoted to it and trying to get it released on dvd (which should be happening very soon) when I emailed the webmaster he was not aware of any existing dvds, only vhs, so that's what leads me to believe the ones selling on ebay are only copies. The great thing about Branagh's Hamlet (aside from Ruf) is that it contained the full text of the play and those dvds are a shortened version.

We have been waiting waiting and waiting for this to be released on DVD praying that it has the wonderful Directors commentaries and a making of.. it is a spectacular thing to watch.. and it doesn't seem like four hours when you are completely mesmerised .. I adore Julie Christies Gertrude and Mr Jacobi's Claudius.. and Michael Moloney's Laertes.. but I have to say Kate and Ken what a pair to watch and what a kiss .. whew!! for a man with no lips that boy can kiss.. sorry I digress.. but any news of this film on DVD is gonna get a rise out of me.. .. and the funniest thing is that Ken won an award for best adaptation... LOL!.. I think Big Willy would have a thing of thrice to say about that!! Anyway Ken should have won Best Actor, Best Director and Best Film... IMextremelyHO...

The website that was in contact with the powers that be seems to be gone. He was asking for donations to keep it going a couple weeks ago but it won't come up for me lately. The good news is that it will be released in it's full magnificent version on dvd in region 1 very soon! YAY!!! And the last news I saw on the site said they(TPTB) were in contact with Branagh and were setting up a date to do the extras for the dvd. I loved the movie - Kenneth Branagh is a genius! EDIT: I just checked Wilkepedia and they say it is already available for download at Amazon unbox (US only)

I bought Hamlet VHS via ebay a few weeks ago purely to watch Roof. I've tried to watch it 3 times and every time I've fallen asleep!! Perhaps I should just cheat and fast forward to Rufus.
The version I have also contains a video documentary of the making of Hamlet! I haven't even tried to view that yet.

I really hope that they do it this time.. they kept putting it off and giving a date and putting it off since 2001 at least.. I got a bit jaded about all the waiting but never about the film. WOOHOO!! oh wait .. that will prolly be a bootleg.. I know that Ken has been really busy with The Magic Flute and Sleuth and As You Like It.. and god knows what else .. the guy is a dynamo.. He saunters around with his hands in his pockets smiling and making people laugh but when he works .. hes like a Tasmanian Devil.. the cartoon type.. Lol

I can only move whole threads to another forum, not seperate posts. You can start a new Ken thread in TV/film or Off-topic if you want.

This is about Region 1/Region 2.......and it does have to do with Rufus........so I HOPE I don't get in LOADS of trouble for continuing on with this......(Uke, if I'm screwing up, I'm really sorry!)
Ok, I just purchased a brand new all region DVD player online.........hope to have it next week! I'm so excited!
Now to the Rufus part..............I also just ordered "Shakespeare Retold" DVD and "Charles II" DVD online and I hope to get them next week too, although they are both coming from England. I'm really excited to see the ENTIRE Charles II and the last 30 minutes of TotS finally!
Question to you Rufus pros out there............is there anything else that I can only get from England? I mean what other DVD's would you suggest I start looking for? I don't have a PAL VHS player, just the all region DVD player.........so I'm open to suggestions!
Thanks! Michelle

Charles II and TOTS are so worth the cost the the DVD player they will keep you satisfied for... (I don't know, ever?)! Well, that was the effect on me. I don't think you can obtain a PAL VHS in the US so do not buy PAL VHS tapes - it will cost you (speaking from experience, twice).
Some advice, do not buy a VHS of Gone To Seed which reads as though it is viewable in the USA - it is not!!!!!!!!!! Besides, I think I bought the last two available on earth.

Of course not!! Have you seen A Man of No Importance? I think it's only available on a Region 2 (= Europe) DVD.

Of course not!! Thank you! Have you seen A Man of No Importance? I think it's only available on a Region 2 (= Europe) DVD. I've seen the VHS tape version. Is the DVD different? Does the Region 2 DVD have tons more on it than the VHS I have? What I have isn't PAL, because I could see it on our old VCR at the cabin. Help me Obi Wan..........you're my only hope! Michelle
