Hello there from Germany! Seeing the first part of "The Pillars of the Earth" on German TV brought Rufus Sewell back to my mind - I'd seen him just once in "Tristan & Isolde" and was totally fascinated by this beautiful and gifted actor, but as it happens often, I didn't bother to catch up with any further information on him. But now I've become quite infected with the Sewell virus and kept searching the Web on pics, bio, movies and other information and finally ended up watching "The Taming of the Shrew" on youtube last night. Wonderful. Googling away again, I came across this board - seems to be quite a lively little community and a good way to catch up with news on my new favourite actor Just a short word about me: I'm 31 years old, live in the south of Germany (not too far from Frankfurt), love good books and music and movies and chatting on several interesting message boards and am looking forward to getting to know all of you!

Hi, and welcome, Kissmekate! We're glad you found us--the more the merrier! The three projects you've mentioned--T&I, Taming of the Shrew, and Pillars, are a great display of his acting range, aren't they? The characters are all so different, yet all so believable and real. You have a lot of great movies ahead of you, too!
The Rufus virus is indeed powerful and uncurable, but for some reason we don't seem to mind that! ;D

Thanks, rueful! Actually, I had put him in the same drawer in my mind as many journalists and film studios seem to have done, the brooding historical hero thing Some snippets on youtube definitely changed my mind. And his reading of the 9/11 poem made me cry my eyes out at the end, that really touched me very deeply. I've also noticed his beautiful voice and pronounciation when watching some of the English originals. I frankly don't care if there's no cure as long as there's Roof

Hi Kissmekate - welcome to the Rooftop and what a great name !
Judging from the viewing figures of TPOTE in Germany I'm not surprised to see a new member from that part of the world.
It's funny we all seem to go through the same thing. We watch something realise we've seen him before in something else. Have to Google and then search Youtube. I came across TOTS in the very same way and it's still my favourite, closely followed by Charles 2 and then there are a whole load that I just can't separate for the honour of 3rd place.
If I had a pound for every time I've heard the effect TOTS had on someone - I'd be rich by now.
See you around on the Rooftop.

A quote as a welcome:
"-Kiss me, Kate! - Not here! - Why not here? Not ashamed of me, are you? You're not embarrased? - No."
Enjoy yourself here! ;D

Thanks everybody! Nell, may I offer you two Euros instead of one pound? Adina, thanks for the quote! It's very nice (and reassuring) to find that I'm not alone with my newly blossomed obsession. Just came upstairs from watching "T&I" once over. And I find it a shame that there's so little on him in the bonus material ...

Good grief, Kate, I saw the title of this thread and thought some malicious person had given us a nasty virus! But then it turned out to be the one we have already! Welcome to The Rooftop - so glad you've joined our merry band of followers! If you haven't already, have fun exploring (I see you've already got stuck in to the games - yay!) - the media section is good for pics and interviews. Oh, and you MUST watch Charles II - you'll love it! I'm only slightly biased! Welcome again! GE2

Hi Kissmekate! Love your name, by the way! I was wondering when we'd start getting some German and Austrian fans joining us, after reading about what a hit TPOTE has been! Welcome to the Rooftop! Judy

Oops, sorry for scaring you ;D And thanks again for welcoming me so kindly! I have spotted several Germans already, that's cool! (Please forgive me when I write crap or mess up sayings, I'm still practicing!) I've spent quite some time here already browsing through your wonderful collection of photos and articles (the kid within me especially enjoyed the burping story going along with the childhood photo - good to see that I'm not the only one who loved a good burping contest as a kid )

I'll add my welcome too kissmekate - there a quite a few german members now, and sometimes they are able to communicate in english better than we can, so i'm sure you will feel right at home.
Of course my recommendation of what to watch next is In A Savage Land. It's on youtube, but it won't be long before you'll be hunting down the DVD!!!
;D
