Oh thank you PrairieGirl. It's new for me. Every time I'm astonished how he can change his voice, genius!

Obscure it may be, but the synopsis is promising (read the last lines). I'd love to hear Rufus read this.

It's really, really funny too--with humor of the 18th century kind, of course. The fact that it was written long ago meant that sometimes I had to replay a line because they wrote so differently--lots of long sentences--but for some reason, with Rufus reading, I didn't mind that. He does a lot of different voices (some of his women are hilarious), and he gets the satirical tone just right. I would recommend it. Here's a link to the previous discussion of the book. It's possible there may be spoilers in the thread, but I doubt it--and it's not really the kind of story you can spoil anyway. www.rufussewell.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=work&action=display&thread=192

Yes! I bought it from Silksounds books last year. It's wonderful! Rufus, as you would expect, does an amazing job voicing all of the different characters! BTW, go to the Silksounds website and listen to the excerpt to get a taste of how Rufus sounds.

I got this audio book earlier this year, and you are right Judy Rufus makes a wonderful job of it . I love all his audio work whether the Audio books ( The Bond books are fabulous ) or Radio plays. I am hooked on an old play for radio called Twisted . I don't know how old it is but he sounds pretty young. It only lasts half an hour but the acting is superb. You can almost see him. And then of course , there's Nick Silver, Rufus whispering on i-pod , straight into your ear . Phowah!!!

Hi rueful, thanks for sending me the original thread for JA. My bad for not digging around here enough to find it. And thanks everyone else for your feedback. But besides his 9/11 readings I had no idea he read JA, Bond and Dr. Syn too. What a glorious new world of Ruf have I discovered! And he does different character voices in JA too? On my! Can't wait to get them all into my iTunes and on my iPhone - pronto!

thanks for sending me the original thread for JA. My bad for not digging around here enough to find it. Please don't worry about that--threads get "lost" all the time, and look how many people you have made happy because they had never heard of this before! ;D What a glorious new world of Ruf have I discovered! Glorious indeed! Absolutely nothing like having Roof talk in your ear for hours and hours!

I'd not heard of this before and I had trouble using the link above. Of course it let me fill the whole thing in before it told me it wasn't available in my area. I managed to purchase it from Silksounds book though and I'm looking forward to listening to it on my flight soon. The download instructions looked quite scarey for a computer illiterate like me but it actually worked quite well. It's now downloaded to my phone and ready to go.

I'll have to get that too ... I'm really looking forward to catching up on all of his audio productions. So far I've only listened to two James Bonds and, of course and repeatedly, dirty-voiced Nick Silver

Bought this from Silksounds a few weeks ago after hearing about in on here. Finished listening to it today whilst ironing and chuckling all the time. 10 hours of Rufus reading - how good is that!!! Its just wonderful and no doubt I will start at the beginning again with relish. He is wonderful with this story, which being in olde english must have been hard to read and all the voices he does just hilarious.
