This is another film I've just watched in my Rufus-fest - and it really wasn't as bad as I'd been led to expect...in a park-your-brain-don't-expect-too-much kind of way.
Formulaic, yes, but still quite exciting at times. Ru's character was far more rounded than that of Rupert Graves, who really got the short end of the stick with his role (I haven't seen him in anything else, other than Charles II, and I thought he was terrific in that), and overall it is one I will view again (okay, on fast forward, for Ru's "bits"!).
I presume (gven his comments on the Zorro DVD) that Rufus didn't do Ian's skiiing (the non-dangerous stuff, I mean)?
I'd watch this over "Victory" any day.

Not high quality but a bit of fun nevertheless. I quite enjoy extreme sports (watching not doing LOL) and the stunts were interesting. The rest of the story was a bit pathetic but not unwatchable.

I watched this one for the first time after watching Charles II - I enjoyed seeing Buckingham and Charles together in contemporary roles. The viewing was so soon to Charles, I could not help thinking about it. Rufus and Rupert work well together.

I'll have to give this film another look. It's in my Rufus collection just because it is Rufus, but I've only watched it once. I didn't care for it, but I do agree with tink, Rufus and Rupert do work well together. And I haven't ever seen "Victory", GE2, don't even own that one, but from what you said "Ex. Ops" must be the better of the two.

I was going to pass on this one but after reading this thread I think I'll see if I can pick it up somewhere at a reasonable cost.

I thought it was an "Ok" film........my hubby liked it better than I did, but Rufus was mighty handsome in it! And the story wasn't THAT bad.......just not great. I saw this a long time ago and didn't even realize that Rupert was in it! I'll have to go back and watch it again!

I cannot agree completely with your severe criticism and your scepticism concerning Extreme Ops for it is among my favourite Rufus-movies - for three reasons:
1. Rufus himself doesn't get tired of saying that he's longing for challenges far away from period films and villains. According to his own words, he wants to play complex characters which are part of a present and naturalistic setting. In my opinion, Ian is such a character. We don't learn much about Ian if we are not sensitised for what he says about himself between the lines. We are observing him phoning his possibly girlfriend again and again, for example. Just a running gag? Certainly not, it's a hint at a dilemma he's struggling with: At the one hand his job and his daily life and his responsibility for human lifes, at the other hand his private life which obviously acts up. That's the fascinating thing about this movie - and maybe also a reason why he's chosen to play this role: The character of Ian is multilayered, and you can discover new aspects each time you're watching the movie.
2. In this movie Rufus looks like I imagine him in real life. Of course, I was also melting when I saw him in that dark armour of Adhemar in AKT, of course I dreamed of his seductive looks in DB, but that Rufus Sewell who's out there doesn't wear mediaeval garments and surely doesn't philander beautiful damsels but is arguably wearing normal trousers, normal jerseys, talking normal, behaving normal - just as he did playing Ian.
3. I plainly LOVE that ultrashort sequence within the showdown scenes where Kitty's board is broken, Ian stops and tells her to hold on to him and driving on along with her, both of them using one board. Even though I'm not very well versed in snowboarding, I suppose that would be very dangerous and dodgy in reality and - he's simply my hero in that scene...*sigh*

Saw this last night, I thought it was rather good and definitely watchable. The stunts were cool and I liked the banter back and forth with the characters. Usually I find the "banter" silly but here I found it funny and Ruf of course looked great!

I thought it was kind of boring but I agree with GE2. I would watch it over Victory any day of the week. I liked the fact that it was a very contemporary role, in a setting that you would not normally imagine Rufus in......but then that is probably part of the reason why he accepted the role. Yes he was "mighty" handsome in it too!

I can't even imagine! I admit to being a big chicken!
I think I'm going to have to actually own this one, at the very least, watch it again! I had forgotten about how "edge of your seat" parts of it were!

This movie was my least favorite, of any Rufus' fillms. He seemed, at best, to be uninspired. I couldn't help thinking that he just didn't want to be there. It's the only time I've seen him give less than 100%. That was my immediate impression several months ago when I watched this movie, that he just wanted to be done with it. (Not to say that he wasn't looking gorgeous!)
Maybe I should give it another chance.....

This film is one of my guilty pleasures, actually. I just sit with a remote and hop from one Rufus scene to another. Sometimes I even mute the sound. Don't get me wrong, even for this genre, it's mediocre and doesn't have much of a plot, but , , , does Roof look great in it. Sometimes when I'm watching his films I get so wrapped up in his work I forget what a pretty thing he is. No danger of that here... there is absolutely nothing else to watch.

and if you're in UK this is on E4 Thursday night at 10.30! for those of us too mean to buy all of roof's stuff (tho i suspect i'm in the minority there!), moments like this are ones to savour. can't say i'm too excited at the prospect of extreme ops, but having sat through Victory twice I should manage this one quite happily! and, as others have said, great to see him in a contemporary role, despite it not being exactly meaty.

So, you guys would recommend this movie for the Ruf scenery, if nothing else?
