Francesca, Amazon states the dvd is 270 minutes - that's 3 episodes of 90 minutes, I suppose. Wichiwoman: I guess it's a little late for a Zen theme birthday party?

Well, I saw it, and... as Italian, I have to say it seemed to me a british movie, apart from the actors and landscapes, of course.
I found it just a bit slow in direction, perhaps it is right for brit audience, being english the director and the writer. It must be very difficult to pronounce the name Aurelio for the English, only Caterina says it well. ;D
Rufus is very good and he looks like Italian normally, and he could use his hands a little more and not to keep them always in his pocket, as usual.
I changed my mind about Caterina, she's not so bad as I thought seeing her video interview in june. I noticed in the trailer after she said ok at the love affair, there is someone who unzips one red dress, but there isn't, at all. What do you think about her? She looks very unhappy, is she so that in the book?
I didn't read the book but I agree with joyce about the isle, Sardinia is much different from every places in Italy, and now, knowing that, I can imagine better the scene on mountains and the bandits, it is much more believable in Sardinia.
I can't get the plot well, so I cannot tell about the script, but I agree with Numbat, Rufus/Zen is a little bit Jacob, not much an Italian man who lives with his mother (and she, the beautiful Catherine Spaak, could seem his partner, from distance, even if she is 22 year older, so actually she could be his mother), and he's too cool and not lazy for me… but I didn't read the book.
About the music, like GE2, I didn't pay attention of it, at the opposite, I noticed there was often no music in the background. Perhaps too perfect for the italian/Rome scenario, that is a mess.
Definitely I'll have to see it again at least with subtitles, if only! for doing a good review. Otherwise I have to wait april when they will broadcast it in Italy.

Dreamer, she does have an unhappy marriage in the books, and she does seek out Aurelio as comfort. I don't want to say further about their relationship because I don't want to spoil it, and it may be something they've changed for the movies anyway.
Joyce, I think his boss is threatening him with career oblivion in Sicily if he doesn't handle the case the way the boss and other police officials want him to. I wonder if Sicilians get annoyed with their home being talked about as such a horrible place.
Numbat, as of 8:27 pm, 616 guests!
As of 9:09 pm, 623 guests

... Wichiwoman: I guess it's a little late for a Zen theme birthday party? THAT would have been cool! With Rufus as the guest of the party?!?! But my hubby and sons would not have been impressed. Now if Caterina had shown up, then they would have appreciated it!

Welcome Jo and thanks for the link. I enjoyed your review and agree with everything you said (I thought the same about Aurelio's smoking - usually I hate that but he makes it look so extremely cool and sexy!) dreamer, the pronounciation problem struck me too Tania has all reason to look unhappy and once says that at this time of her marriage falling apart everything is hard on her, even having to go to work in the mornings. Just remembered another thing I loved in "Vendetta": when he bangs his head on the steering wheel after seeing Tania in the rearview mirror with her male friend. That was Rufus's self-deprecating humour showing, wasn't it?

Lagging a little bit behind, but thanks to Judy's brilliant advice, I had my meeting with Zen now. ;D My first impression is: ! What a film! Being neither English nor Italian I'm not aware of any misconception in style or language. The film is relatively close to the book, so if anyone claims that the plot is confusing, I'd advise to read Dibdin (Zen Omnibus contains all three books which were filmed) - it's fun to read! The three threads of the plot - Zen & Tania, Favelloni and Spadolini were slightly changed, but the end was coherent. And Rufus is brilliant as Zen, showing his emotions more often by his facial expression than by words. The shooting of the cave part was surely not delightful for him, despite all arrangements to make it easier for him. Catarina is very authentic as an unhappy wife. Now I'm looking forward for the next Zen film (Kabal?).... ;D

Cant wait to see the dvd when it comes in just for the better quality. Dvd player here and working so far...test will be the region change. Zens expressions do remind me of Jacob Hood a bit...but of course they do. I liked the part when he called her on the phone a few feet away....then looked over at her....swoon!
The reviews seem positive!

Guess what I ordered today! kygal, yes, that telephone scene was another I forgot to mention. Loved that a lot, especially the long pause until she answers and the looks they exchange meanwhile.

Well, there's an....um.....interesting discussion going on about Zen over at Digital Spy: www.digitalspy.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=1418127Some very positive comments, and (WARNING, in case anyone gets upset) some extremely snarky ones. There are spoilers there, too. Mind you, they're always snarky at DS.

Argh! "Rupert" again! And a facelift. Come on! Some of the comments really brought my blood pressure up, but at least there were some nice ones, too. (What do they want? Blow-the-whole-town-up action? The umpteenth grumpy detective in baggy clothes? And the accent discussion is starting to get on my nerves - is that really such a big deal in the UK? In Germany, we have Germans playing all kinds of people and no one wastes a thought as long as they look believable.)
