It was a very good interview, or discussion really, and he does make the odd comment all the way through, as well as the main times that germanlady has given. Apart from Zen, he touched on things we have heard/read him say before - he talked about how obstinate he can be where work is concerned, being prepared to live a "limited life-style" while waiting for the right role, how he began to view his own father differently after becoming a father himself, how he feels theatre is the only forum where he can show his true capabilities and how "I'll be damned if I'll be typecast there". In contrast to the Loose Ends interview earlier in the year, this wasn't a lot of people talking over each other, more of a natural progression of topics. It would have been nice if they had played part of the interviews from 10 years ago, but of course time was limited. Wish it had just been Rufus, though! Just pleased he isn't planning to die young !

I'm listening right this minute on the "Listen Now" feature! How nice to be able to hear him in conversation with other interesting people, who don't all talk over each other! I'm currently listening to the point where Rufus is talking about Thomas Clarkson, and I love his description of Thomas as the guy who is still standing around eating your cocoa puffs after everyone else has left a party. He's so observant of people (which goes with the territory of being an excellent actor, I guess). When he's describing various roles he has played he always has such a precise, but usually funny, way of getting right to the heart of their characters. He's just a wonderful interview subject! Thanks again for finding this interview, GE2! Edited to add Rufus's last line (talking about eyeglasses that are supposed to have facial recognition technology): "Avoid! You snogged her at a party, turn left!" He'd make a great comedian, wouldn't he?

Enjoyed Midweek , Intelligent people talking intelligently. No irritatingly stupid questions.
Rufus was articulate, witty, funny candid and very charming as usual. Wish it had been longer. I shall listen to it again this evening, just to hear him laugh. It would be wonderful if they could drag Michael Parkinson (the Master) out of retirement to do a chat show with him. Parky would know when to shut up and let Roofie talk.
Still we must be grateful for small mercies and Libby Purves did not seem to " interview", more to jog memories

Then about 11 am he woke me up with a cup of tea, some toast and throwing the Radio Times on the bed said "Here's your fella for you" ... but he's got lots of business paperwork to do at his office this afternoon and said "you can watch your Rufus all the time". You've both got really nice men, Francesca & Kissmekate! Mine was so kind not to let on that he'd noticed we'd watched one movie after the other with the same man in it. Until I wanted to watch Pillars again and he said: "Not that one again, it's too early". ;D The Radio 4 interview was nice, though more Rufus would have been appreciated. I liked Rufus description of Zen as a man who lands on his feet, and then his feet hurt. Far more interesting than boring Bond.

Just finished listening to Midweek. I really enjoyed the whole program -- such an interesting group of guests. It made me laugh when John Sargeant was talking about having been offered the opportunity to pose naked as a centerfold in Cosmopolitan. In the discussion that followed about whether John would have been allowed a fig leaf, Rufus very slyly slipped in and said "a staple." LOL! I love his wicked sense of humor.

Back on topic: I'm seriously considering e-mailing ZDF again to inquire when Zen will air in Germany ... Oh yes, please do it and if you get an answer please let us know because I'm curious too. I wasn't able to listen this morning so I'm looking forward to tonight and listen to the interview then.

Oh yes, please do it and if you get an answer please let us know because I'm curious too. I tried once before in early December and got back a very quick reply, but they couldn't say anything about the timing at that point. I guess I'll give it another try in the new year

I just listened to my recording. Great interview. I enjoyed listening to all of them. A complete contrast to the previous radio interview with Clive Anderson. An interesting bunch of topics too. Of course I particularly enjoyed listening to Roof's dulcet tones ! Re the Thomas Clarkson discussion I just loved the reference about the bloke hanging around after the parties finished who's eaten all the cocoa pops. LOL, I hadn't realised Roof had been to one of my parties Just checked my recording set up for tomorrow and discovered Breakast was set to record on BBC instead of Daybreak on ITV. Phew - good job I double checked.

Then about 11 am he woke me up with a cup of tea, some toast and throwing the Radio Times on the bed said "Here's your fella for you" Oh, how sweet is that?! As I cannot hide a very broad and very stupid smile whenever Rufus is mentioned anywhere, Mr. KMK is well aware of my recent affliction and stubbornly refuses to watch any films with that green-eyed man ("I don't understand what you see in him" ) ... but he's got lots of business paperwork to do at his office this afternoon and said "you can watch your Rufus all the time". Sure I will!! Back on topic: I'm seriously considering e-mailing ZDF again to inquire when Zen will air in Germany ... Ah KMK, we're in the same boat and Mr.S literally saying the exact same thing to me every time he catches me watching him on TV or visiting the RoofTop, he'd make comments (which is rather unkind at times) and so far I tolerate him. Thank you GE2, Anniem and GermanLady for the articles!! Always enjoy his humorous take on himself and life in general not to mention his chuckles.....

Just been listening to the Midweek interview again (the full version, not the edited one they've just broadcast), and it made me smile when Rufus was saying that he always knew which character in a film was going to die because it was always the one with the cough! He has such a unique way of looking at things!

How great it is to have the chance to listen to Rufus on another radio program via the internet again. (It also makes so it easy to slide back and forth to relisten to the Ruf bits) I'm giving the internet a virtual (ha, ha) We all know he has a beautiful and unique voice, but listening to it alone, without visuals, just seems to intensify that fact.

Hmmmph! Not a happy bunny. I dragged myself out of bed shortly before 6am, just missed the very start of Daybreak so didn't hear the rundown of guests, but at 7am mention was made of the after 8am guest.......and it's not Rufus. NOT happy. (I don't do 6am starts )

GE2 I know how you feel! I watched from 7am - mainly on mute - I can't take TV first thing in the morning.
I wonder if he'll be on tomorrow or Friday? Not sure I can I can get up this early again - I'm on holiday this week!
I saw a longer clip of Zen on the TV last night - they were showing clips from all 3 episodes - there were a few shots of Zen and Tania together - it looked quite saucy!!
Oh well, off to make another cup of tea...
