That's fantastic news! And it has been 12 years since my one and only visit to Rome. Wouldn't it be time to finally go again?

For me it's 8 years...and only the one visit - maybe we should do a Rooftop get together.

Zen is one of the best programmes I've seen... I can now look forward to some decent drama on Sunday evenings...atmospheric, superbly acted, tight plots and the gorgeous Rufus Sewell...what more can a girl ask for?
Doing it for me!

The ITV show Dancing on Ice (one of those "celebrities learn a new skill" reality shows) sounds like it's always tough to beat. Yes, Rueful, I think it is. Also, I'm not sure if i-Player viewings (and the second showing on the HD channel on Mondays) are included in the viewing figures. (Thanks for this week's, BTW) Dancing On Ice was preceded by the first episode of a very popular drama series, timed to start before Zen and therefore to steal potential viewers, then DOI itself had a skate-off, following a viewers' vote, for the last available place in the competition. I bet more watched Zen on i-Player as a result. As to the effect on the likelihood of a further series of Zen...well, technically, as a public service broadcaster, the BBC isn't supposed to chase ratings. They do, though, of course. I think the fact Zen has been generally well-received, both by critics and the viewers, is what will determine its future, so a dip in audience figures on Sunday probably will make no difference. Incidentally, I just checked and the audience figures dipped for the second episode of Sherlock, too. The third episode of that drew in more than for the second, but less than for the first episode (which was the only one, I seem to recall, that started at 8.30 rather than 9pm) Edited to say welcome to bluebeatbabe! Please do start a thread in the Members section and tell us more about yourself!

My prediction based on the ratings is 3 more shows. The first garnered 20% and the second 18.1% There are American TV shows that would be renewed on the spot with ratings like that. I am very happy for Rufus. He finally got the TV show he deserved. I am sorry to be so technically challlenged but I cannot wait to see it on PBS. I hope for that kind of share on American TV

I think an average of almost 20% is not too bad. (Obviously there weren't too many people who opted out after disliking the first episode - maybe we should be glad after all about those who watch Zen just to dissect it afterwards ) And all "official" reviews in magazines, papers and so on were quite good, that's reason for hope too!

It sounds like the prospects are good, but I never like to get my hopes up. It seems that the organization that assesses final ratings in the UK (Broadcasters' Research Audience Board) is a lot like the US Neilsens. They post "overnight" ratings, and then they post ratings 7 days later that take into account delayed viewing. I think that includes DVRs and maybe iPlayer. I was reading an article about Upstairs Downstairs that indicated that the final viewing figures for that show were better than reported because the media tends to focus on overnights and then doesn't recheck for final numbers. This link shows the top 30 programs for the week ending Jan 2nd (first Zen episode). Zen was rated 20th with final viewing figures of 6.24 million, up from overnight figures of 5.1 million. When you consider that a number of the top 20 are different episodes of the same show (5 are episodes of Eastenders, 4 are BBC news, and 2 are Upstairs Downstairs), Zen didn't do too badly! www.barb.co.uk/report/weeklyTopProgrammesOverview

I believe kissmekate asked this already but I am wondering if there is any news on the ratings for the third episode either the overnights or the ones that are done later on just curious
