Just saw it earlier this week & absolutely loved it! This movie was so much better than the reviews I read led me to believe. Rufus also had a much larger role that I expected. He does have the famous curls in this movie & is of course gorgeous! Who else out there enjoyed it?

I enjoyed it as well, but the second time around. The first time I was too mesmerized by Ru to actually pay attention. I think John Turturro is excellent in it as well, as is Susan Sarandon and Aida Turturro.
I know Ru did an interview at Cannes right around the time the film was released about working with Christopher Walken in the film that was hilarious. Anyone else remember that interview? I think it was on the old site.

Who else out there enjoyed it? One of my favorites, Ree. I love the contrast between Dominique and the Unfaithful Husband Rufus plays at the end. Of course it would never be possible for someone as self-centered as Dominique to play the husband so sensitively. Still it's wonderful to see such range in a single actor let alone in a single picture. In fact I quite liked most of it, Christopher Walken, Susan Sarrandon, Beverly Di Angelo, Ben Gazzara, Leo Bassi but I found the two principles weak. I think Turturro should stay behind the camera.

I watched it again for the first time in ages the other day and quite agree with you about the weakness of the lead characers - it seemed very much like a vanity piece for the Turturro family.

I watched Illuminata last night after not having seen it for a while. I was surprised to discover that the actor who plays Marco (Bill Irwin) is the same actor who plays Mr. Noodle on Sesame Street! I've seen a good bit of Sesame Street in the last few months, as my granddaughter has become a toddler.

I recently bought this, got it for next-to-nothing on ebay.
I love R's performance in this. I wish his role would've been bigger though (um, can say that about a lot of his films, ehh?) The part where he's cursing the audience behind the curtain is so funny - when he says "...yeah, that's right, f**k you!" his voice reminds me of Stewie from Family Guy. LOL! And when he's outside, practicing what he's going to say to John Turturro's character - "You baasstaaarrrd!!" Good stuff.

I think those two scenes were really funny too, and the one where the other male actors in the company burst Dominique's bubble about starring in the next production. Ruf seemed to have a lot of fun in this role and I think it showed. I believe it's time for a second viewing of Illuminata!

I loved those funny bits, too. And the opening scene when Ruf pops up, breathless and frustrated. I've noticed they often have him do bits like that, i.e. in Cold Comfort farm. They are just using him for his beauty--ha, ha.

And luckily, he's good at that too! He can "act" so beautiful, when the script calls for it, can't he? HAHAHA

I just saw it for the first time and was really taken with Roof's comic talents...I haven't seen TOS yet here in Canada, and only saw him being funny in Cold Comfort Farm and the one with Albert Finney . I liked his Quasimodo bit in the credits ....he's got a real Charlie Chaplin thing going there..I've mostly been taken with his romantic roles and thoroughly enjoyed his villainous turns, but now I want to see more of the comedian.....minus the curls, I think.

Yep!!With you on that. THe curls wonderful to play with, but he's so much more interesting without them distracting one.

if you go over to roofsewell.com and look at the clip archives you will see a pretty lengthy scene from TOTS. There is also a multimedia section with the "making of" from the DVD.
