Just wanted to share some of my adventures in London of last weekend.
I was lucky to stay with a friend who lives a bit outside of London. The main reason besides visiting my friend was going to the theatre. So we started off with An Ideal Husband by Oscar Wilde at the Vaudeville theatre. We had got half price tickets luckily, as it turned out that the play was rather boring. And it wasn't just us - some people left during the interval. It was a shame really because the actors were good but it was all very static and stiff. The second half of the play was a bit better, with Elliot Cowan showing his comic talent as Lord Goring. But all in all it didn't save the evening for us.
Next day was Luther at the NT archive for me ( I will post about this in the Rufus work section) but I really did enjoy it and after I had finished watching the archive assistant handed me a box containing numerous photos, newspaper clippings with reviews and interviews, rehearsal pics etc. I think you can have photocopies of the articles but I was a bit too shy to ask, and they probably would not mind if you take pictures of the photos. If I had been alone in the room I would have done it, because there were some gorgeous b/w pics of Rufus, some of it that were not published I think. They don't charge you anything, so if you are from London or nearby, and have a couple of hours to spare, try to make an appointment.
I went over to the National theater to get a villain t-shirt for tonights Hamlet - here's the link so you get an idea what it looks like ;D

We immensly enjoyed the play, which I had already seen last October. Rory Kinnear was fantastic as Hamlet and the setting in a modern day totalitarian state riveting. It is one of the best things I have ever seen in theater. There will be additional performances in April at the NT. So if you have a chance to see it I can really recommend it.
We tried the stage door afterwards but we didn't catch Rory Kinnear.
Saturday was a long overdue visit to the British Museum (haven't been there for 25 years) and then we got discounted tickets for A Flea in her Ear at the Old Vic. Tom Hollander in a double role was hilarious and we managed to meet him afterwards at the stage door and got an autograph.
Sunday then sleeping in, then my friend drove me to Heathrow.
Another wonderful London visit, with not so wonderful blisters on my feet ;D ;D
Just adding some pics
