Just want to mention this again - the quality of the video recording is really not good, it is a VHS tape and filmed just with one camera from the back of the stalls at the Olivier theatre which is quite big. So no close up shots of Rufus.
Memorize the pics or drool afterwards over the pics they will let you see from the production, but nevertheless it's worth to watch the play and there is no charge at all.

But I think I have at least 2 of his speeches - angry scornful Rufus - you get the picture Oh, wonderful. I love the way the words burst out of him when he's angry Indeed! Zenina, you are a wonder, do you know that? Hats off to you!

I paid a visit to the National Theatre Archives last month and watched Luther. I agree with many of the comments made by Zenina. The vhs tape is not good quality and the camera must have been in the worst seat in the theatre. That said I'm so glad I saw it. The start was a bit slow, not helped by the fact that I started watching on a tv screen (very poor picture) and without headphones so I got a few glares. I was eventually moved to a pc with vhs so I could use headphones. But this was still in the main reading room. The end I found a bit abrupt but the middle had some great moments and a few good shouty bits which I loved. The faces were bleached out for much of the recording which was a real shame as it was difficult to see the facial expressions.
I also spent ages looking through the production and rehearsal photo's which were fantastic and terific quality. I looked through the original costume sketches complete with fabric swatches and a huge file of newspaper cuttings of reviews from all the different papers. These made great reading.
I was able to come and go as I liked through the day and nipped out for lunch in the plays interval before returning to pick up where I left off. All the material was left out all day for me to take advantage off and it was all for free. I recommend to all.

Zenina, thank you for the time you are spending here giving us all the information. I am new to Rufus, so I haven't heard about him playing in this. I would love to hear your audio as well. And thanks for the pics- very nice colors! Rufus a monk... very strange concept Oh, nell, how much I would love to see those original sketches (well, the play too, but ). For me this would have to be in another life time, but with your help here at least I feel closer to all the fun.

Pity that the picture quality was poor, but the rest sounds really really great, Nell!

I love the "motion" in the first pic. Every mention of his plays makes me wish I'd had the chance to see at least one of them.
