I finally managed to have a second go on this film as MOTW. - It's really rather black humour, partly scaring, partly repugnant, but also hilarious in the end. It's the story of Bella who had to endure a lot of things by men until she decided "not be the lamb, but the butcher" and acted accordingly - she took her revenge when she was offended.
It was helpful to me that I had read the book in the meantime - there are no subitles and especially Rufus's part on the phone is sometimes difficult to understand. But I'm surprised how well he can play the baddie even as a young man - his part is absolutely convincing - a real nightmare.

Just watched Dirty Weekend and Rufus inhabits the character of the creep really well! So well it's creepy in itself. Convinced Mr Barbican Belle to watch with me (bless, he too is working through Rufus' back catalogue) and he too, thought that there was a good idea there, but the film is somehow less than it might have been. Some good lines, but sometimes some of the acting is so wooden, you have to assume that Michael Winner wanted it that way. Not sure I see why it was banned though, other than, of course, us ladies are not meant to get up to that kind of stuff. Only men allowed. Harrumph!
