Dirty Weekend is showing on TCM on the 9th March at 11pm. Never seen it, not my usually type of movie and not a lover of Michael Winner's work. But it was one of Rufus's early movies, 1993. Found a clip on utube. A creepy peeping tom and so very young. www.youtube.com/watch?v=hbMJ68qnmS8Has anyone seen it. I know the story line and it was banned from video release for a few years for its violent and sexual content. Hey, this could be enjoyable evening Love Ophelia

I just ordered this now that I have the region free player. Not sure I'll like it or not but did add it to my collection.

Kygal, Tim is probably one of the least likeable roles Rufus has ever played (and in my opinion the film is dreadful), and my thoughts on it (if you're interested!) in the previous thread for this film: I just watched this for the first time...and probably won't watch it again. What a scuzzy little movie, and what a sleazy character Tim was. It's testament to Rufus's acting abiltity that I really did not like him at all in this - even Jasper in The Holiday was nicer (slimy, yes, but not sinister like Tim)! He completely inhabited the role of repressed, mentally disturbed loner, getting his kicks in frightening women (the w*nking scene was truly disturbing), and although he was perhaps too good-looking (sorry, Rufus, you may think it's a handicap, but there you are) for the way the character was portrayed, the sense of wanting to have power over women, maybe through sexual inadequacy, was palpable, and the threats he made to Bella seemed entirely possible. I don't think he could carry off this role so well now (even if he wanted to be a part of such a tacky endeavour) because one of his strengths here was his youth - the sense that maybe Tim was like he was due to his inexperience with women. If you haven't seen it, do, if only to see just how creepy Rufus can act. Just don't expect to put it on your list of "favourite roles". If anyone wants to see previous comments/reviews on this film, the previous thread is here: rufussewell.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=work&action=display&thread=148

Thank you GE2 Michael Winner movies are, as you say scuzzy. I will watch on wednesday and probably once will be enough for me. With the clip I have seen, I can see the creepy performance that Rufus gives and the strange parting in the middle hair do. Love Ophelia

It's been put into my tv planner I can't decide whether I'm looking forward to finally seeing this one or not!

I'm not sure either if I want to get that movie or not ... the little youtube snippet is creepy enough with him looking so sweetly innocent while he talks to the girl like that.
Looking forward to your comments, though!

I bought this dvd from Amazon (not knowing it was a Michael Winner film or what it was about). I watched it and whilst not enjoying Rufus playing a pervert, I quite enjoyed the film. I found myself laughing at the absurdity of what she gets up to. When we view it now it seems very dated and Rufus is very young. He is not likeable at all in this film but then he wanted at that time to play this part as a pervert. He did it very well in my opinion. The film is escapism of the worst kind but we have to remember that it is only fiction. You have to laugh when she strips and ties up the guy that picks her up in the hotel and when she gets her own back on David McCallum. I say well done for Rufus in one of his first roles!

A comment of the Daily Telegraph on Helen Zahavi's book "Dirty Weekend" on which the film is based: "A dark an brilliant book ....Dirty Weekend is a lucid angry polemic in which the internal logic is clearly that of satire."

Yes, Walt, I felt that. Even though the film is shocking and is very dated now, it is a quite enjoyable film in a shocking sort of way - pure fantasy!!

Well have no idea what happened Taped Dirty Weekend to watch today but for some reason I have an old Oliver Reed movie, information shows Dirty Weekend. So, shrug the shoulder, no idea. Have to see if they are showing again in the week. So hopefully I can see the perverted peeping tom stalker Tim, later. Love Ophelia

Oh how disappointing for you Ophelia! Even though Dirty Weekend is not one of the best films for us Rufaholics, I think you would have quite enjoyed the film as a whole. Plus we all of us want to see everything that our hero has been involved in because it all adds up in our minds to the total admiration of him in good or bad parts! If that makes sense! Maybe they will re-schedule if they didn't show it. Hope so for you!

Well I wont be adding this to my list of favorites. Rufus was good as the very creepy and sick Tim. Not my kind of film though. I did laugh at some of the dated stuff....not sure why.

Ok watched this as again as part of Movie of the Week. Usual format:
The Good
Great acting from Rufus. I would never have believed he could actually be that repugnant. That little shuffling walk he did was spot on. He actually reminded me of some weido that used to come into my place of work and flash his savings account book around to try to impress the ladies. Creep ! Fair do's to the make up gang for the number they did on him too. I really wouldn't have believed it if I hadn't seen it.
The bad
The music - god did they have to it was actually so bad it was funny. The rest of the acting was extremely dodgy in most cases. Bellas dancing around the room was just cringe worthy. It was 1990's but it struck me as more 1980's - did people actually dress like that ?
The Ugly
I actually think the plot could have made a good story. It was just a bit OTT and really cheesily done. I've not seen any other Michael Winner films that I know of. Don't think I'll bother either. How on earth did the guy get so rich ? Oh yeah are the guys in Brighton really all perverts and the ones in London Bar stewards ? It mentions on the dvd box that this was a controversial book it doesn't mention the author though. A friend of mine read the book years ago and said it was really good. Still maybe the author wanted it keeping quiet after they'd seen the Michael Winner version.

The author of the book is Helen Zahavi. I think I remember she wrote more controversial stuff. I haven't got the film, so I couldn't go along with the Movie of the Week, but I saw the little snippet available on youtube and was amazed at exactly HOW creepy that character was. Re the clothes - I was rather shocked some time ago when I realized that the early nineties were quite as bad as the eighties in terms of fashion
