well when you put it like that... ;D I actually think he does something similar to much better affect in Charles. The scene where he first sends Buckingham to the tower just takes my breath away, it's so powerful. It's very controlled and uses a trick that I rarely see actors pursue which is thunderous silence to express displeasure. He's veritably shaking with rage, but he says nothing--does nothing. I sometimes wonder if Rufus was a better Charles than Charles. I love to see this stillness in Rufus because as anyone who has ever met him in the flesh can tell you, it doesn't come naturally. He's worked to find it.

Maxx, Tell those of us who have never met Rufus more. I do get the impression from the interviews I've read and the few I've been able to see on youtube or imdb that he is the type of person who sort of squirms and twists, but in a pleasant, likable way. I've also read how warm and friendly he is to everyone he meets. I find many of you on the board extremely eloquent in your descriptions of Roof so much so that I feel I have met him. Can you provide more feedback on your statement . . . (but I'm not trying to put you on the spot . . . just love to hear about the man)

, this is really a close vote here! We haven't had it this close before.........so what do you all think? Should we take the top 4 and vote again, hoping for a more definite win? Or do we take the scene with the most votes now, regardless of how close it is? If we have a "do-over" with the top 4........then we'll give people through the weekend to revote.........but if we go with what we've got, I think we can declare it finished now and move on! What say you good people?

I suggest using that scene and moving on.

He's worked to find it. That scene does definitely stand out. I thought it must be the one you referred to the other day in this thread. In the beginning of the scene he seems almost paternal, the council all squabbling like spoiled children and trying his patience. Then Buckingham goes too far and suddenly he is the KING, gloriously enraged! I recognize one of your screen caps from exactly this moment in the film. His eyes burning with anger! Concerning his natural lack of stillness, you may have seen in the Making of Charles II the point where the camera suddenly swings away from Rufus while he is sitting on a platform. He's so involved in what he's describing at that time that without thinking he appears to have reached up the back of his shirt to have a good scratch. ;D

What say you good people? As one of the top four voters......I say go with it, unless someone else votes soon.

Hang on, I haven't voted yet! I can't choose!
Added:
Okay, for me the choice was initially between Marke asking Tristan if Isolde has a lover, the wedding night, and Marke confronting Isolde.
I quickly rejected the Marke/Tristan bridge scene, because Franco is just so bleugh in it.
The consummation scene was beautiful, but Rufus is out of focus for most of it.
So I've gone for Marke confronting Isolde. I love the tight close-up on Rufus's face, and how very beautiful his eyes look in that scene. I love how we can see his eyes tearing up as Isolde tells all. And most of all I love that heart-breaking intake of breath.
So, since that is now second, I like the idea of a re-vote! (And if this scene wins, can it please include the part outside the door, when Bragnae is trying to stop him, and he is breathing oh-so-hard and trying to control himself? Please?)
And again added:
And now I see it's joint first!

Looks like we're going to have to have a play off round on this one unless someone comes along with a tie breaker. I think we only had 15 original voters for which picture. Maybe we could induce the new people to vote and get the stalemate broken that way. I like the Marke/Isolde scene a lot but there isn't much of Marke in it. It's primarily Isolde trying to explain away what she has done. Heck let's just put them all up.

Well, although the arrival and bedchamber scenes were sweet and show that tender acting of Rufus we all love so well, my vote went to what I thought was one of the more interesting scenes, on the bridge. I never thought about that seeming 21st century, what a good point. What I also wanted to mention is that I bought a (used) DVD of "Tristan" at Hollywood Video yesterday for only $5 on their 50% off sale. Legend of Zorro was there too.

Of course I can include anything you like as long as most everyone agrees, ge2. rufluvr:Nice to see the new folks voting. Glad that you jumped in and thanks for the tip on T+I and Zorro.

Maybe, even though with the last vote the bridge scene is ahead, we can include two scenes for this film? I know that's a lot of work for Maxx..........so she has to be ok with it. I think the two scenes show different aspects of Marke's character and both are important parts of the story.
I am glad to see a newer member jump in! It's nice to see people participate!
So, my thoughts are.........if Maxx will do two scenes, then let's call this finished. If she'd rather choose one scene......then we either have a run-off vote between these two scenes or we just pick the one that is ahead tomorrow (which we'll say is the official end of the voting).
Well that was about as clear as mud...........sorry, I'm not much help! It really boils down to, Maxx is the one that has to do all the work.........so what she says goes!

Okay, here's my take on it...
Doing two scenes would be fine, BUT what if we do another clip of the month some month where we do a run off of the second place scenes? Or a contest where we do 'cross Rufus' scenes or scenes where Rufus does some of his best work without saying a word? Or a clip of the month where Rufus really makes some hokey dialog sing(boy we could have a field day with this one)?
I think there are probably a lot of categories where either might get a second chance and win, so my personal preference is to have a run off...
But it's up to you all. What does everyone think?

I've always said that most of his films fall into several catagories.........we certainly do have a chance to choose T&I again later on. Ok then............I'll set up a poll with just those two scenes and let's see what you all choose and it will be the video Maxx can use for T&I on the website!
