It's ok meg - i haven't actually made it to bed yet. As i said before, i'm very easily distracted!! Anyhow, for you, and any of the other newbies who may be interested in what we did last year, this is the thread for the 2010 birthday card: rufussewell.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=other&action=display&thread=1398The thread is quite long, but at the end i did post pictures of the finished product before it was sent.

I've read your ideas yesterday morning, numbat, but then my conference duties called and I haven't been able to get back online earlier I'll happily go along with anything that wins (love the thought of actually participating in a birthday card he'll get!), but I particularly like the idea of the LolRoofs and the idea of showing the international scope of this forum by using photos of the places where we live.

The ideas sound great! But you know I am VERY tech challenged, I dont know how to do what you are requesting. Sounds like a fun idea though!

First, it's great that you are back Numbat! And yes, the Birthday Card Project 2011: I often read that Rufus likes funny things, so IMHO LolRoofs is a great idea - perhaps we should not exaggerate the misspelling. And I think it would be nice to give an explanation to our non-native English speakers to make sure that they can have a good laugh, too. ( Which includes me )On the other hand if the text is really a good one, it should be funny even if the grammar and spelling is okay. As far as pictures of ourselves and our locations are concerned, I'm not so sure whether a person who travelled and has seen as much as Rufus will be very intrigued by a few more landscapes and a few more people to see. If we want to show Rufus where his fans come from, a map like in the 2009 Birthday Card will do. And frankly, one reason is also that I agree with Zenina that My idea of a birthday card is that it should include something personal and therefore I'd rather prefer to include a short written message. IMHO a handwritten note is more personalized than a message sent by electronic devices. If you set the rules about the possible messages like last year, Numbat, it should not go wrong.

Thanks everyone - please keep giving me your thoughts if you haven't already done so.
People's opinions do seem to be quite varied so i may have to make an executive decision in the end, but i'm still keen to read your opinions to help you decide.
As an aside, i showed my 13 year old the LolRoof thread today and he was cracking up particularly at the sammich ones. They are so funny, and there are lot more we could do yet. So now i'm wondering if we should continue our sandwich theme of last year!! (because of course, i'm not already having enough trouble deciding what to do!!)

Firstly, thanks Numbat for taking up this task yet again! I'm happy to go along with the majority, although I did like Nell's idea of the postcard with the message, best of both worlds I thought, but understand that it would be difficult to put together unless anyone can come up with an idea on how to get around this? I'll be happy to wear my 'courier' hat again for the delivery! ;D

Hey ruthie!!! Glad to hear from you and thanks for offering your services again. This year I plan to have it to you much earlier so we don't have last years drama!!! I have to be honest with you though girls. I really don't like the postcard idea. As walt said, Rufus is well travelled and i don't really think he would be interested in postcards. If you watch the Train youtube video that i posted, you'll see that the basis behind the photo idea is that is shows us in the places we live. I think it just gives a really warm touch giving a face to the fans, but if the consensus is that we don't want pictures of ourselves, then i think we should drop the photo idea and just stick with messages. We can put the world map in again this year which shows where we all come from, but postcard photos aren't what i was thinking of. Those who want to include a photo of themselves within their message will be welcome to do so as per last year. I'll put some thought towards the format that i'd like the messages in and post that later. In the meantime, keep working on those LolRoofs!! Don't forget we're looking for one, or at the most two, pictures that sum up the essence of the movie/character. Unless i change my mind and we go with the sandwich theme again, lol

In the meantime, keep working on those LolRoofs!! Don't forget we're looking for one, or at the most two, pictures that sum up the essence of the movie/character. Unless i change my mind and we go with the sandwich theme again, lol Today I had a go through all pages of LolRoofs. There are a lot of funny pictures that include the sandwich theme, but if you see too many of them it becomes boring, because it's always the same. Therefore IMHO I'd suggest not to repeat it - remember we had it last year - or to use it no more than once or twice. I think the best texts are those who are completely unexpected with the picture - e.g. the scarecrow was hilarious to me.

Please don't be concerned walt, i'm not really considering the sandwich theme again. I was just tossing it around as a bit of a joke.
As i said from the beginning, my idea is to have one LolRoof to represent each of his movies/tv shows, that sums up the essence of that show.
I do think we should have one or two that mention sandwiches though if possible, because it is a bit of a theme with us, and the card is supposed to represent us.

I agree, numbat, about the sammich thing. It definitely has become a RoofTop thing and we all know of his love of them and he knows that we know he loves them, so I definitely think a sammich should make a little appearance. I absolutely think as well, that a LolRoof featuring a bashing of Cohen should also make an appearance. I have a feeling he'd get a kick out of one of those.

I'm with the bashing of Cohen - maybe in just one of the LOLRoofs we don't want to look too agressive after all do we ? I don't think any dissing of any other actors should be included though and of course a limted use of the sarnies gag. We don't want to wear the joke too thin but I agree we are known for our sarnie gags now and he did enjoy them. Re the postcard thing I meant to write the message on the front of the postcard. You can get pastel postcards that will take a message being written over them. I suppose we can write on what we like though if we go with messages as long as it fits the size criteria. I guess we'll need to know how many of us are participating before the size of message is decided though. It's a good job we started the debate early this year ;D

I like the idea of us all holding a piece of paper (saying Happy Birthday Rufus or something) next to our favourite place in our town (like you suggested before numbat).

Love Lolroofs and having a photo with Happy Birthday. Also maybe a funny face. Rufus loves doing his own funny face! I would probably do cross eyed, poking my tongue out or I could borrow Princess Bea's funny hat. That always gets a laugh!! Here seen as a cat flap
