I just read two books that I thought were excellent. Well written and a good use of language.
They are both by Michael Robertson: the first is "The Baker Street Letters" and the second is "The Brothers of Baker Street." The premise of the series is that a barrister and his solicitor brother have gotten a fantastic deal on a set off offices in Baker Street - namely 221 Baker Street. The reason for the fantastic deal? They have to answer the letters that arrive addressed to Sherlock Holmes.
You should read the books in order, as the second book references things that happened in the first but it's not totally necessary. Each book stands on it's own.
