Private Message Security

Hi, everyone. Just a little reminder about private messages (PMs):
We all know that the Terms of Service for Proboards include a rule that material posted on the boards should be rated the equivalent of US PG-13. The posting of very adult content that is too mature for teenagers is prohibited. This rule also apples to PMs.
PMs cannot be read by any administrator or moderator of The Rooftop. However, like pretty much any website you go to, the employees of Proboards itself (who host this message board) would have access to everything written on the site, if push came to shove. That is, PMs can be read by Proboards staff, if it is necessary. There is no reason to panic. The Proboards staff does not routinely read PMs. (They would not really have time to read all the tens of thousands that are posted every day.) It's more likely they would just look at one if they received a complaint, for example, from a Rooftop member about receiving an inappropriate PM.
However, it's not just a question of adult content. It's important for everyone to know this so that you don't send any personal information in a PM that you are not willing to share with others. So, if you are meeting another Rooftop member and you give out your address, it's like, for example, putting your address into Amazon.com to order something. Proboards staff members are not likely to look for it, see it, or use it for any evil purpose. But PMs are not totally, 100% private. So, just like anywhere else on the Internet, it's best not to give out information that would compromise your security.
We now return you to your regularly scheduled Rufus-related conversations and/or swooning. ;D
