Yayyyy, love this audio work! Thanks, Adina, not least for finding this wonderful smiley: No matter how many times I hear this (and his other audio works), I am amazed by Rufus's ability to create distinct characters and emotions with just a little change of his voice. Brilliant! Gosh, yes! Sometimes I have to remember that it's all Rufus. (And I do so love Mr Mipps)

I was especially surprised by his female voices. Often, male readers tend to overdo the ladies, but Rufus's women are just lovely.

Some female voices done by men sound very creepy. Not the case here.

!! I have been listening to these for the first time - thanks to you guys alerting me to the fact that they were newly released. Love this place - even though I don't often post. Just know that I am here. I've now heard 7 exciting episodes. Can't wait for the next one. Rufus does an amazing job with the voices!! Also, my All Things To All Men copy will be here in a couple days! So excited to finally see that.

Just got finished "binge" listening to Dr. Syn. Listened to 5 episodes in a row. I am a tad confused though, reading earlier posts, I got the impression that Dr. Syn dies in the end. Is there more to this series that the BBC didn't play?
Normally I'm not one for audiobooks, but Rufus is a great narrator. It's hard to remember when you're listening that it's the same man reading the parts of Merry, Mipps, Dr. Syn, and the others. As has been noted above, he give each character a distinct voice. Even the women, Imogen is quite different from Charlotte.
Totally agree the BBC should release this on CD. Maybe we should harness the power of the Rooftop and all of us email them requesting it. I can't think of any company that doesn't like to make money - surely when they see how many copies they could sell they'd fall all over themselves to get it done.

I am a tad confused though, reading earlier posts, I got the impression that Dr. Syn dies in the end. Is there more to this series that the BBC didn't play? This was the Doctor Syn series. There is another 10 episodes long series with the title: The Further Adventures of Doctor Syn. And there is a third batch, 6 episodes, The Last of Doctor Syn. (13 hours of entertainment à la Rufus.) BBC repeats only one set of Syn every time - not very often, but regularly. We can't leave out Mother Handaway , the woman who thinks herself a witch! "Yessssssss, Master!" She makes a great duo with Syn! "Hhhhhhh!!!"And the second series presents Miss Agatha Gordon, she has the best g iggle in the audiobook history! So join next time again, Rachel, the character feast will continue! I've now heard 7 exciting episodes. Can't wait for the next one. Rufus does an amazing job with the voices!! I love the way Rufus fills the fighting scenes with excitement! "...and with a tremendous effort..." He turns the cruel story into a thrilling tale.

Ah - that explains it! I can only hope the BBC decides to air these episodes soon. Thanks for the clarification Adina.

PM me if you're interested in hearing The Further Adventures... and The Last....
I don't think it will diminish the group fun if you hear it before the BBC decides to air it again!

Unfortunately, this isn't available on CD, but it gets aired on BBC Radio once in a while.
