M(o)B and I went to see this film this afternoon. I have read this book and seen the DVD box set of the Alec Guinness version. This is an excellent film with a full line up of the cream of British acting. It is beautifully filmed. Gary Oldman is mesmerising. Acting all round is superb.
See it if you can!

Thanks for letting me know about this!
I think the film will premier in the US in late October or November.
I also have the DVD box sets with Alec Guinness, which I thought were excellent. Rewatched both Tinker Tailor and Smiley's People a few weeks ago. Both are still some of the best things I've seen on television.
Will there be a film version of Smiley's People, I wonder?

I heard about this film about a month or so ago. It sounds good! I'll have to check it out. Gary Oldman's always amazing in everything he's in!

I didn't in the end, but a friend of mine did, and she said it was excellent. She told me it was so full of story that she'll probably have to see it again because she left the cinema still wondering why some things happened and how some things tied into the story. She said a lot of things in the story can easily go unnoticed by the viewer. I don't know what she means by this, but from what she told me, the audience is expected to stay alert throughout. I'll rent it when it comes out, but I'm a bit disappointed now that I didn't have the time to see it in the cinema.

While in recovery after months of "free quality time" starvation, I came across this film, and I cannot stress enough what an impression it had on me. It has an exceptional photography, challenging and interesting "old fashioned spy" story and wonderful cast. I haven't seen anything like it in a while.

We saw this one at the cinema on Saturday. I was very impressed by the superb acting of a truly wonderful cast (I'm becoming more and more of a Cumberbatch fan, and Mark Strong has a pretty interesting face!) The story has many twists and turns, jumping back and forth in time which requires some attention, but I loved the way the suspense was developed in a very quiet way and kept up until the end. There were a few minor open questions in my mind at the end which I discussed at length with Mr. Kate, but that's just what I like in a movie. (He found the film boring, by the way Men!!) Another thing I really loved was the authentic '70's feel of the whole movie. I'm a sucker for details in "period" stuff and they did a gorgeous job with the clothes and furniture and everything.

I've still got this in store - looking forward to it. Funny that you're becoming more and more of a Cumberbatch fan, Kate, - it's the same for me. And I absoluted hated him (well, his character) in Starter For Ten... I'll have to think Sherlock for that, I suppose.

Honestly I'd never really heard about Benedict before "Sherlock", where he knocked me off my feet as the somewhat batty, somewhat arrogant eccentric genius detective. And funnily he's been in several films I've watched since then - Amazing Grace (brilliant!), Atonement (smarmy character but so well done). Rufus is correct, that boy's got talent, and although he's not really my cup of tea in the looks department, he does have a certain special charm.
I'll be excited to hear what you thought about the movie, anyother! Hope you get to see it soon.

I rented this movie. It seemed interesting, and it has a great cast in it. I feel like I probably should've read some of Le Carre's books beforehand, as I was confused as to what was going on at some parts. It was pretty good, though-nice and dark. My mom ultimately got bored with it, though, and decided halfway through to start reading the paper. As a side note, this movie also helped me get my literature wedge in a game of Trivial Pursuit once. Random, but true.
