I just got home from seeing the new Sherlock Holmes movie and now confess that I am officially 'over the top' where Rufus is concerned. There were at least 4 things that qualified as immediate connections to Rufus for me in this movie -- and "Sherlock" is very different in premise and in the 'action' that is an essential element than anything our boy has ever done. Still ... my mind was on Rufus throughout the picture. If you've seen "Sherlock" or if you happen to view it sometime soon, tell me if I'm completely off-base here.
I have 4 rather immediate comparisons/contrasts to offer, but I'm sure if I watched the movie again, I would find more. Nevertheless, here they are:
(1) Rufus in drag and Downy in drag are 2 very different "animals." Downey is simply funny. Rufus is funny, sexy, gorgeous, desirable. Granted, none of those Rufus-y drag attributes were necessary to the film, but I kept thinking how much better he would have been at it.
(2) The shot of the upper half of Stephen Fry's bare bum will make you, quite literally, fall to your knees and thank the deity you worship that you have been privileged to view Rufus' naked bottom perfection in all its glory. There is a reason the movie shows only a "crack" of Fry's nether regions but a full-cheeked vision of Rufus'. We can be grateful for both decisions.
(3) I believe it is Jude Law who makes reference to something in the movie as "Big" and I was immediately transported to the airline lounge scene in TOTS when the Earl orders a drink and ends up describing it as "Big." I'd be willing to bet Law saw the scene and tried his best to emulate it in "Sherlock." You know what they say about imitation ...
(4) Downey's 5 o'clock shadow is a poor and scruffy second cousin to Rufus' natural masculine facial hair. And nobody in the movie can boast of Rufus' eyes. Or lips. Or ears. Or nose. Or interesting scars. Or cheekbones. Or broad shoulders. Or curly hair. Or perfect long legs. Or finely-fingered hands. Or rounded posterior (oops, guess I've already been there once) Or chest nicely dusted with hair. Or broad back. Or eyebrows. Or ...
Having said all that, I want to note that I really liked the movie. Would just love to hear what anyone else who has seen or will see it soon thinks in relation to Rufus.
