I don't know the ultimate source for these photos or the circumstances surrounding them, so I'm probably going out on a limb here -- plus you're all going to think I am the strangest person in the world to be saying this -- but as beautiful as these photos are and as much as I enjoyed seeing them, they make me a little uncomfortable. I wish someone could tell me the photographer actually approached Rufus and said, "By the way, do you mind if I stand right over there and snap about two dozen photos of you while you eat?" It just seems very intrusive unless permission was granted -- and if I were Rufus and someone asked for permission to make those kinds of shots, I think I'd suggest tactfully that franco was just around the corner and loves having his mouth caught on camera while he's putting food in. Now you can all tell me how wrong I am and inform me that Rufus was approached and gave permission and I will slink away into the shame corner for having been so judgmental to begin with. Please notice, too, that I am placing all the blame on the photographer while I am applauding all of us for posting and loving them. Did some suggest a dose of consistency in my life?

I agree Anglo. These pap shots made me feel very uncomfortable too. I'm always uneasy about pap shots but often they are lovely and a joy to see. But these ones wrong footed me even more than usual . Perhaps it's because even though he's in a public place it's obviously a private moment, clearly taken with a long lens and without his knowledge. The poor guy couldn't even eat his meal without being photographed. What next - will they be following him to the loo and poking the lens through the window Sorry - that's just how I feel!

I agree, I also have a very unfortable feeling about these pics. If we take it as a guideline for posting what Rufus would say if he saw these pics I'm pretty sure that he would not be delighted and furthermore that the person who posted them would not be in his good books.

I love the man in a white shirt, and I love his hearty appetite ... but I agree with anglo and the other ladies. I'm pretty sure the pics were taken without his knowledge.

Nice pics. I have mixed emotions about pap pics. Dont always like the invasion, but enjoy getting to see him. There just are not enough "official pics" out there to satisfy me. Not always right, but goes along with being a celeb.
Noticed shes not eating.

We've had the debate about pap pictures before. While they are an invasion of privacy, they are a fact of life for celebrities. Rufus most likely isn't surprised to be photographed in public places, it comes with the territory when you're in his business. As I recall, the majority of us came down on the side of not minding pap pictures as long as there was some indication that Rufus was aware of them being taken. As others have noted, the problem I have with the pics posted is that they show a Rufus who seems totally unaware of the photographer. Modified to add: here's the link to the poll/discussion on pap pictures. rufussewell.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=polls&action=display&thread=1419Modified again to add - I take that back about Rufus not being aware they were being taken. His companion clearly seems to be looking at/in the direction of the camera. And as kygal noted, she's not eating, didn't want pictures of her with her mouth open??? Rufus is just ignoring the photographer.

yep, I know we have debated this before.and Yes I will look at and enjoy Pap pics as much as anybody. But that does not make me feel better about the invasion of Roof's privacy. And feel we should as members of the Rooftop should make some sort of stand . These particular Pics that were posted were beautiful . She may have been aware of the pap but it was obvious that Roof was not.but they made me a bit dirty. a voyeur, and i did not like that. We have loads of other 'official ' pics or ones taken by fans with Roof's knowledge , available to us . We don't have to post such obviously private ones.
Sorry if this is a bit sanctimonious but I do feel strongly about it.
Modified :-I would like to add that scrolling down to "Other Rufus Stuff" I saw this guide line added recently in bold type by our Moderators " ....do not post pics or links to anything that is clesrly private." I think these pics come into this category.

Well, now that I opened the door on a topic we all are clearly conflicted about, I want to say I didn't mean to be critical of anyone on the board -- i just wish photographers wouldn't be so invasive. And I can't get past feeling hypocritical that I so clearly enjoyed something I then am critical of. So -- I'm switching the focus now ladies -- She's not eating because he already ate hers! (let's laugh some now, OK, and forgive me if I have offended anyone or seemed critical of anyone. You know I tend to speak before I think and I truly cannot be sanctimonious about something I'm still salivating over. We are all so grateful for anything that feeds our Rufus appetite, so sometimes it's hard to be objective -- as I know better than anyone. Why were it not for me, GE2 would be bored stiff day after day. ;D Haven't had much time on the board today at all, so don't know if this has been addressed yet -- did Rufus show up at the Golden Globes?

Thanks for reposting that link Joyce. You're right we have had this discussion before and I guess we'll carry on having it as long as there are questionable pap shots. It's a very emotive subject.
As was the view of most in the link - we don't want a blanket ban on pap shots. But most were glad that the moderators/admin would review each on a pic by pic basis and decide whether it was something we want to promote on the RT.
There seems to be a general feeling of uneasiness for most of the boards members and that in itself I feel is quite heart warming. Good on us all for putting Rufus first.
I have therefore taken the move to delete the pics from the RT. However, many of you also thought they were lovely and were grateful of the opportunity to see them. I have therefore left the link and those that wish to see tham can therefore click on the link. At the same time the RT isn't seen to condone them.
Hopefully this will keep everyone happy.

Nell, I can see why they made you a moderator! Excellent decision.
And I worded my post clumsily - I wanted to point out that we've debated this issue before more to reassure anglo that she wasn't opening a can of worms rather than trying to stifle debate. Becasuse I agree, pap pictures are a subject to raise people's emotions. Those people can and DO do some very dangerous things to snap their pics. Thankfully Rufus hasn't been subjected to that kind of treatment (that we know of) but the possiblity is there.

Nell, I can see why they made you a moderator! Excellent decision. Hear, hear! Many thanks for stepping in and providing such a good compromise, Nell. On the contrary, Joyce, I think you (and Anglo) opened up the debate, rather than stifling it. Thank you for finding the link to the previous discussion of this issue. There is a fine line to be trod with these sorts of photos, which is why it's a case-by-case thing. Personally, I think the pics here were borderline. Rufus and Alice may not have been aware of the photographer. On the other hand, they were eating at an outdoor cafe, and given Rufus's fame (and handsomeness! , they would be aware there was always a risk of being papped - it's something that goes with the territory. There is a world of difference between that and them being, say, in a private garden and photos being taken with a long lens. Perhaps the way forward is for anyone finding paparazzi pics to do as suggested on the front page: If in any doubt about what is acceptable, please send a PM to a moderator. If the pics are cleared for posting, the person finding them will get the credit, even if we decide to have the link only on the RT.Why were it not for me, GE2 would be bored stiff day after day. ;D What, you don't think hunting for pics of Rufus isn't exciting enough for me? Not that I've seen. However, I am about to post some news about what he's been up to...... HERE.

I think this was a good salomonic decision, Nell!
Thanks to everyone for keeping this discussion so nice. I've seen similar debates (in other forums, of course) ending with people lunging at each other's throats.
