Rufus on "Amazing Grace"

Just found this quote from The Times on 11 March, and I love it because it shows just how determined Rufus is to do things his way:

Sewell almost missed out because he was intent on playing Clarkson, and Apted initially wanted him to be one of the villains. “I said, ‘In that case, I’m not interested,’” Sewell recalls. “It was an intensely frosty moment. I was only interested in Clarkson, because of the stand he took.” Sewell returned for a separate audition and was hired. “It is the first time I’ve managed to change anyone’s mind,” he says. “That’s an indication of how much I wanted it.”

Oh, and I just found out that the UK premiere "with its starry cast" is "in the plush surroundings of the Curzon Mayfair in central London on March 19 2007" with afterwards an exclusive post-premiere party at a top London location.

That means photos, people!

I'm delighted he stuck to his guns. He was one of the most entertaining things about the picture. But I must say that I think he's wrong about changing people's mind. A lot of people seem to have re-thought their opinion based on Amazing Grace.

um, some new photos would be lovely wouldn't they?

He's probably off working on John Adams and won't be seen...

I am inordinately proud of Rufus for standing firm!! This is exactly what I meant a few months ago. Sometimes you've got to dig your heels in and stare them down! Yes, yes, yes, AND he brought so much to his role as Clarkson. It was such a treat to see the facets of this man's personality revealed throughout the movie. I can't wait to see it again! How wonderful! I'm SOOOO glad he was so adamant about portraying Clarkson, I doubt the character would have been nearly as interesting if someone else had done the role!
