Hello and welcome to the Rooftop, Janet! Glad that you decided to join. As the other ladies have said before, there's no age limit to that lovely affliction we call Rufusitis. I only discovered him about 1.5 years ago when TPOTE was on TV, and when I started looking up what else he'd done, I ended up with a few pretty large credit card bills and a stack of DVDs - I loved him in everything he did so far. Even if a character isn't well written, he always makes the most of it. And Zen was gorgeous, wasn't it? The 9/11 poem was one of the first works I saw after TPOTE and I sat at my computer in the middle of the night, crying my eyes out because it was just so moving. My greatest favourite is "In a Savage Land", but I'd also recommend TOTS, The Woodlanders, Illuminata, Uncorked and Dark City.

Hi Janet and Welcome! You have so much to look forward to discovering all those films and series. I first noticed Rufus in Eleventh Hour, oddly enough it's not one of my favourites now I've seen all his other work. It was my hubby that pointed out isn't he the bloke from that film you like - meaning Knights Tale. So I googled Rufus and the rest is history! On the subject of Knights Tale - I ended up buying 3 different versions one in HD (my first one, which had no extras) the extended edition (my favourite) and the widescreen version for the audio commentary. I bought a few that caught my eye initially Taming of the Shrew (my all time favourite) then Charles 2 (still my second favourite) the rest's a bit of a blur, there were dvd's dropping on the doormat every few days. Hubby's eyes rolled as each new dvd arrived I think Frannie mentioned In a Savage Land - this should be reasonably easy to get in your neck of the woods I imagine and is one of many that were my third place favorites, these days usurped to fourth place by Zen. Anyway - it's great to see you here - enjoy your new dvds

Just typed a message and somehow lost it, maybe it wasn't meant to be, it was only lamenting the difficulty in finding Rufus works anywhere but online. Even TOTS is now unavailable at the ABC shop here in Adelaide, GRRRRRR. I have looked at the chat room, does anyone use it? I would certainly like to if anyone is in a suitable time zone for me. I am not really au fait with time zones but I will try every day at 5pm Adelaide time for a while in case anyone else is interested. You will have to work out for yourselves how it relates to your particular time zone. Hoping to have some live chat soon, especially those in my neck of the woods, maybe numbat, and I forget who else is aussie. Chat rooms are obviously difficult with a widespread world membership, but we could try. Sweet Ruminations everyone, Janet

I can confirm that it is really difficult to find Rufus's work to purchase if you do not intend to order it online - here you may find "The Holiday", "The Legend of Zorro" "The Illusionist" and perhaps "The Pillars of the Earth" and "The Tourist" in a shop, but nothing else. I've no idea whether there may be some sites which offer legal downloads of films if you pay for them? Anyway, good luck for your hunt! ;D
For an online chat it may be helpful to start with the RT "home" as it shows who is online at the bottom of the page.

Hello and Welcome Janet I have been a Fan of the gorgeous Rufus for sometime. Going back to 21 with Patsy Kensit, as drug addicted Bobby (My boyfriend at the time had a thing for Patsy) and have been hooked ever since. I have loved him as Will, in Middlemarch, Mick, In a Savage Land, over sexed Seth, Cold Comfort Farm, and playing one of my favourite artist Mark Gertler in Carringtonand Gorgeous Lord Marke in Tristan and Isolde. Of course I have to mention Charles II and my favourite, The Taming of the Shrew, Tom Builder in Pillars and with the brilliant Aurelio Zen. Enjoy yourself and welcome again Love Ophelia

Not sure which board to access right now. I have spent a lot of time trying to track down Rufus stuff, I bought TPOTE, Knights Tale and The Tourist, which I haven't watched yet. Also managed to borrow TOTS from my local library and Middlemarch. Quite by accident I found The Legend of Zorro on TV! Not a film I would normally watch, even with Antonio Banderas, in actual fact, on reflection, most of the stuff Rufus has been in is not my normal cup of tea viewing wise, but I have enjoyed it all so far, how could I not? I now have reserved The Power and The Passion and Helen of Troy at my library, and my son has tracked down The 11th Hour for me. I shall be so sated with history I won't know what century I am living in. At the moment all I can say is OMG what a talented man, I'm even tempted to watch Vinyan, again, not my normal taste, is it the same for you ladies too? Now I have to go and feed my cats before they die of starvation, but I will be back soon, Love Janet

Hello Janet, a bit late with the welcome but sincere just the same. I can relate to so much of what you have said from first discovering Rufus in the wonderful Zen ( I complained to the BBC on several occasions about it being axed) to trawling the boards to find out as much about him as I could, and making it a mission to find as much of his previous work as I could. Like you , like us all I have been buying so many DVD's , some of which are not really my type of film which is probably the reason why I was not familiar with his work, but I have to say these are in the minority, and I have enjoyed watching them because he is such a brilliant actor , his characterisations are amazing in such diverse roles and it is lovely to see how Rufus has grown as an actor over the years. Most of the films that I have caught up with, which have been recommended by other members I have thoroughly enjoyed , I won't list them here but they are all favourites as listed by the girls, and I watch them over and over which I have never ever done before with any other films. I think his more recent work, namely Zen. TPOTE and I understand Eleventh Hour which unfortunately I have not seen , have been outstanding and I am so looking forward to all his new projects. Obviously not only a brilliant actor but gorgeous as well , is it any wonder we are all so affected. Well enjoy the boards I absolutely love communicating on the boards with such friendly and like minded people. Must go now it is very late and I will start waffling. Bye for now. Jamolivej.

Hi again if you got an earlier post but I have eye problems and I was telling you about Rufus's readings which are often availa ble under the Audio sections in libararys aand you will love them. Especially his James bond and Arthur Andrews. Cannot help you further just now but believe me you say you only watch a film once .....No you will not because the adiction grows, you need the extra features that you get on DVD and anyway we have the film of the week on rooftop. Sorry its a bad day for me but if you could try Play.com they might have films cheaper - I get some as little as £4 post free. Some resales are even less money. You need to know what sort of DVD player you have or whether or not your computer will play them.
