Looks like you all had a good time, LTM, Lassie and Nell - and lovely pics. I don't think I'll be able to concentrate on anything anymore today though, ha ha. And Lassie, I'm sure he didn't run off because of you, but because as you said he had to give someone a lift. Good reason to go a second time!

Oh thanks anyother for your kind comments - "the running for the hills" comment was supposed to be a sort of joke - I know, I have a strange sense of humour!!! I do like your suggestion though - Old Times a second time - I think I could cope with that ;D

Ha ha Lassie, did you really think I thought you would really think such a thing of Rufus? If you have the chance, treat yourself to another dose of Old Times, and tell us all about it!

I'd certainly swallow any such medication. It must be the Clive Anderson radio show in which he joked about Oprah and Lance Armstrong and substance abuse...or the medication I take at the moment

SPOILERS
I am going to see Old Times at the end of March. I have bought the book and red the text. Even if English is not my native language I understood the text very well. Nevertheless I should very much like to discuss what the play is all about. I understand that the two women are two characters of the same person. But I am not sure if they are mourning their youth or something else. Please are there anyone who can give me another explanation.
END SPOILERS
Laban, I've amended your post with a spoiler tag, so that people who have not seen or read the play yet will not read anything that they don't want to see.
Everyone, please remember to tag your posts with a spoiler notice if it gives away plot points. Thanks.

I've seen it!! I went up for the matinee performance, but didn't know if I could make it until the last minute as there was a chance of more heavy snow here overnight - which thankfully didn't materialise, although there were some big fat flakes falling when I got up to London, and when I came out after the performance. Anyway, the play was fantastic - way too short, of course! I read it on the way up, and thought I'd understood it.....until I watched it! (I have a feeling Pinter might have intended there not to be a definitive interpretation of what it was all about) Rufus was brilliant in the role of Deeley. Nell had said there was an element of Albert in his performance, but I also saw Jan from R&R in Rufus's portrayal of Deeley, especially in his excitable moments. It will be interesting to see how the dynamics change between the three characters if/when I see it again with Lia as Kate and Kristin as Anna, instead of the other way around. ***SPOILERS***Laban, I know a lot of people interpret Anna and Kate as the same person (as alter-egos, with very different personalties), but although I tended to think that when reading it, I wasn't so sure when watching it. I felt that Deeley and Anna were almost jealous of each other, trying to prove they each had a better claim on Kate than the other did. That would also fit with the alter-ego theory, though - Kate's more outgoing side trying to reclaim her from the quiet life she had with Deeley, while he saw Anna's reminiscing as her trying to take Kate away from him. (Having said that, there were also moments of flirtation between Deeley and Anna, which contradicts any sense of jealousy) That's just my first interpretation - I may well change my mind when I see it again. ***END OF SPOILERS***I heard several people praising the play on my way out, although I'd noticed that the man sitting next to me didn't applaud at the end - and heard him say to the couple the other side of him that he thought it was a terrible production, before storming out! He was definitely in the minority. I did see Rufus outside, briefly, but not to talk to. He left deep in conversation with someone, so it wouldn't have been right to intrude, and certainly not to try and take any photographs of him. (I wasn't even sure he would come out between performances, anyway, especially as it was bitterly cold, so seeing him at all was a bonus) No worries, same thing happened the first time I saw R&R - and it's not like that's the only time I'll be seeing the play - I have several more chances! (and I have met him several times already, so mustn't be greedy! : To those yet to see it, enjoy! (You will!)
