Thanks for sharing your impressions and experience with us, GE2! Of the few comments I've seen, most seem to have a problem with the play itself, rather than the performances. But, as Kygal said, most people seem to love it! I hope you'll get to speak with Rufus next time! This is not a Rooftopper review, but it's not an official one either, so I'm putting it here. At the end, the reviewer gives his interpretation of the meaning of the play, and I thought it was interesting. Laban and others who are discussing the meaning of the play might want to have a look. Obviously spoilers are involved when the blogger talks about his interpretation. However, he has put them at the end of the review and indicates when they are coming. partially-obstructed-view.blogspot.com/2013/01/theatre-review-old-times.html

Happy Sunday everyone.. I've just had a couple of fantastic days....meeting up with old friends and meeting new ones too. I now have even more crow's feet having laughed so much. The highlight of my weekend just had to be seeing Old Times again!! I'm beginning to think of it as old times... ;D I have now been privileged to have seen the play 4 times and I have to admit I am lovin' it. Obviously my lure to the play in the first place was my admiration of Rufus as an actor. I was not sure when I first went see to the play that I would actually enjoy it (especially after reading the script). How wrong could I be. I enjoy it more and more and I find the whole concept fascinating. I don't know about Kate and Anna going over memories from 20 years back.....but it certainly takes me back 20 years to my study days. Much of the content of the play relates to the area I studied and for me personally it's like meeting an old much cherished friend. I have now also had the opportunity to see the Anna/Kate character switch and I must say that both actresses are excellent in both roles. Each brings their own nuance to their given character. And Rufus? Well, yes I am totally biased I know, but he just steals the show every time for me. There are light, funny areas of the play as well as dark and disturbing ones, plus heart-wrenching moments at times, but through it all Rufus is superb as Deeley. He moves seamlessly from one emotion to another displaying incredible acting ability. I have my own theory on 'the plot', although it's a play that is seriously open to much discussion. That's the beauty of it really, once you start to discuss the plot, there are so many variables and it gets under your skin... IMHO...Brilliant. This was taken last night after the show. Enjoy your Sunday off Rufus and thank you for a wonderful performance. If I may quote from the play itself? 'You're lovely to look at, delightful to know. . .'I am sure more reports from the weekend will follow before long! And more photos too..

A few more photos from the weekend. I'm just about to pull my PC to bits..and I thought...just in case it no longer works afterwards...that you would appreciate it if I post these first. Friday evening (and bitterly cold) Saturday evening (and raining), yet Rufus still took the time and trouble to stop and chat with everyone outside....... ...despite getting somewhat wet in the process!!

Thanks LTM - you know how to please us Rooftoppers ;D. Your photos (as usual) are superb.
Are you used to seeing and talking to Rufus yet, or does it still feel like a dream?
