Great find, thanks. I like the title, it sounds a bit mystical to me.

In case anyone missed it, Judy started off the speculation about this project HERE on Tuesday - see her reply #740.

I think I miss the point so maybe one of you ladies can help me why would they make a movie and then release it for free. Are they hoping some movie theatre picks it up. Is it a short??? Yeah, that's interesting. "Girl walks into a bar" is free on youtube. It says it a full-length film and it's over an hour long.

I too have no clue about this and I'm part of the youtube generation. Like wichiwoman said, Girl Walks into a Bar (the first internet film to be released) is indeed over an hour long (almost an hour and 20 mins). I would have said that maybe it's because youtube has become more popular as a media outlet than a movie theatre or TV (I would agree with the latter. Youtube is my TV now). Maybe it's going to be the hot new thing to release films just through youtube. Girl Walks into a Bar has half a million views (and anyone posting things on youtube that get a certain amount of views (I think) gets paid a certain amount). If the people who made GWIAB were given say $5 per hit, that's not bad at all (I don't know what the going rate is, though) especially for an independent work that most likely wouldn't have even gotten half that much (it probably would've been released to a select number of theatres or shown only a film festivals). Since their would be a considerable amount of hype for GWIAB being the first film to be released through YT there was probably a deal set on a predicted amount of hits so there was a set amount to be paid to the actors and crew (that will just keep growing as time goes by). I can understand why it'll be released through YT, but I still remain a bit confused for the same reason as some of you. Because it isn't being released as most films usually would is it right of us to assume that it may not be that good? Who knows....but I hope it's good for Rufus' sake. He hasn't personally steered me wrong yet!

Thanks for posting this link, Judy. Very interesting! I'm a little sorry to read that Girl Walks Into a Bar was only available in the US. I hope there will be a way around that when Hotel Noir comes out.

Thanks for the explanation megagem I am not sure that it is not good but I think since pictures take a lot of money to make and more to promote and then there is the whole which movie house will take them and now that I understand the pay thing, I believe the smaller companies may actually find this a more appetizing way to get a movie before an audience and then if the more traditional movie houses want to show it so be it. I think it is llike publishing a book on the internet and then seeing who reads it.
SO perhaps it is not a bad idea after all. The independent companies are really getting swallowed up by the larger companies because money is not so easy to come by.
Well I hope it is good and when it comes out I may actually join youtube. The things I don't do for Rufus. Vampires... What next!!!!!

Thanks Judy - very interesting to read about the film and the reasons why it is to be seen for free in the US - pity only there, but maybe this could change?

I'm a little sorry to read that Girl Walks Into a Bar was only available in the US. I'm VERY sorry to read that - bummer! However, there is hope! Reading that Wiki article (thanks, Judy!), it does say at the end of the production section that Locomotive Distribution is handling worldwide sales - so maybe it will shown in cinemas elsewhere? Maybe the initial internet showing is to guage reactions to see if it's worth marketing it overseas? Or maybe after a certain period of time, it'll be released on DVD? By the way, looks like even you lucky US gals might have to wait a bit, if Girl Walks Into a Bar is anything to go on - that was filmed over a short period in Feb-Mar last year, and not released until a year later.

Oh my gosh, thank you so much for posting the article, Judy! A lot of my explanation was just a bunch of things I've heard over time about how youtube works. I had no idea GWIAB had so many stars in it. No wonder it got so many hits! I knew Carla and Danny were in it, but Zachary Quinto? Alexis Bledel? Josh Hartnett? Emmanuelle Chriqui? Rosario Dawson?! Holy cow! All of them have huge followings! I can't wait to see the full cast list of Hotel Noir! Maybe the initial internet showing is to guage reactions to see if it's worth marketing it overseas? Or maybe after a certain period of time, it'll be released on DVD? That is very, very likely, GE2. I didn't think of that! By the way, looks like even you lucky US gals might have to wait a bit, if Girl Walks Into a Bar is anything to go on - that was filmed over a short period in Feb-Mar last year, and not released until a year later. Unfortunately, I'm sure that's probably very very likely too. A year you say? Wouldn't it be interesting if it came out near when ALVH comes out? Hmmm...I wonder... I also know what you mean, vmaciv. I've been trying to avoid the vampire craze as long as I can but ooooh I have a feeling this role is going to be particularly sexy (*praying and crossing fingers* please let there be a white linen shirt, PLEASE let there be a white linen shirt....!) ;D
