What a horribly devastating situation in Syria! And now the government has resorted to chemical weapons! They need all of our support and prayers....

A Very British appeal - 50 Years of the Disasters Emergency Committee aired on ITV on Tuesday 3 July. It's available on iplayer for the next 7 days. A very sobering report spanning back over the years. I've included it in this thread as there are several references to the Syrian Appeal which Rufus recorded and not to trivialise the importance of the message but Rufus makes several appearances and there is footage of the recording being made. I think we all recall The Ethiopia Appeal and Rwanda even those that weren't born then must surely have heard of these. For me the Tsunami Appeal hit a chord. The images even now completely floor me. I challenge anyone to keep a dry eye throughout the entire programme. A warning.... there are some harrowing schemes as you'd expect from a a report about disaster appeals. I'm also not sure if it's also available to view outside the UK. Maybe with expat sheild. t.co/G6hgmVg9UgThere's also an update on how much the Syrian Appeal has raised so far 16 million up to 1 June. It's open for donations until September 2013.

Difficult to watch but rewarding if you see it to the end. There are some heartwarming stories of the good that's been done. I like that it's not political too.

Rewarding, yes. Gives you hope that something can be done when people get together. I still remember Rwanda.
