Hello Everyone!
Blue here, very nice to virtually meet you all!
I have been lurking for quite a few years, getting my hits of all things Rufus from this wonderful website. I'd like to say how brilliant this forum is, from the film/tv/theatre info to the sourcing of all the knock out photos, right through to the great atmosphere this board has.
Having lurked in one or 2 other fandoms over the years I think this is the only one I've ever seen to always maintain such an easy going, friendly vibe.
I first saw Rufus in Dark City in the late 90's, at first I was all crazy to see Richard O'Brien in a movie (childhood fan of Rocky Horror) and by the end, it was 'Richard who??'.
I've seen most of Rufus' movies since, but not all. I've come to the conclusion that he is such a good actor in everything he's been in, even if the rest of the movie is average. Although I am biased! I've missed quite a few things, usually because the topics don't interest me and I can't take horror movies so nothing will make me watch Vinyan for example! Goes without saying I'm all over the stills
My favourites are Illuminata, Charles II, Triston & Isolde & Shakespeare Retold.
Guilty pleasure is deffo Martha, Meet Frank, Daniel & Lawrence
Oh and Helen of Troy, I didn't see that until last year and wasn't sure why everyone thought he was always type cast as the villain really...terrifying!
I LOVED the screwball comedy element of Shakespeare Retold, but then I love screwball comedies.
Special mention goes to Nick Silver Can't Sleep. I've listened to this thousands of times. Perhaps this is the project that I love the most actually, even over film.
Bottom line is: he's one huge ramekin of awesomesauce and there is no (living) actor I like more.
Usually my fav era for the actors I like would be the youngest, like baby Jimmy Stewart or Cary Grant, but I pretty much love Rufus all the way from the start till now. Although the most fanciable Rufus for me is a chubbier Rufus
I've been lucky enough to see him in Macbeth and Rock N Roll. Finally did the stage door photo op at Old Times! Can't imagine for the life of me why I didn't do that for Macbeth and Rock N Roll. He was as lovely and gracious as you all said he would be. Oh I also came to the Q&A at Bafta (?) for Zen - thanks to the info posted on this board. Due to slackness I missed Restless.
I wish I had some clear memories of Macbeth but I don't, except that my friend and I were second row and I had a terrible cough that irritated everyone in the audience, and my friend maintains, the players too. I also wish I'd gone to see him multiple times (like Old Times) but we couldn't afford it back then.
I live in North London and have had a couple of sightings over the years; a pub in Camden and a pub in Soho. My friend once sent me a photo of his arse from the check in at Virgin Atlantic when she was behind him in the queue! I have tried to convert as many friends as possible over the years, usually successfully.
Well I've rambled on and on, so I'll stop now. I look forward to being a member of the board for many more years!
