Hi, I'm Laila from Italy. Old time fan of Rufus... I'm only a few years younger. I have almost finished to read all the threads (lots of pages...), I left the Media part for last . I hope to get to know all of you better while discussing about our lovely "common interest". PS: I'm still mourning the end of Zen...

Laila,
Welcome to the Rooftop. I'm sure you're going to enjoy yourself here. You'll find that we also haven't forgiven Danny Cohen about Zen.

Welcome to the Rooftop, Laila!
As a fan of Zen you may have read the books by Michael Dibdin on which the films were based. They were so amusing to read that I purchased the other ones of the series and reading them I often imagined what the scenes would look like as a film ....
But on the other hand this shows you exactly what was lost by Danny Cohen's decision to axe Zen ...

I did not know Dibdin before even though I love the genre but I tend to read in my own language (I got lazy with age). I have the three novel but I still need to make up my mind and read them. Maybe I don't want to be disappointed but based on your words I wouldn't be.

Hello and welcome to the board, Laila! I'm sure you have already discovered what a treasure trove of all things Rufus this place is. I loved Zen very much, too, and I never understood the decision to axe it, but luckily Rufus has been doing some other very exciting things since the end of Zen. I'm curious what made you fall in love with Rufus. For me, it was "The Pillars of the Earth" that did the trick. And what are your favourites beside Zen? (One of them must be "Middlemarch", to judge from your scrumptious avatar )

I was able to read most of the threads in record time because I have a lot of time to waste . I work from home most of the week and I sleep very little. And I wanted to avoid the usual rookie mistakes about posting, so I tried to get confortable with the way the board works before de-lurking. I surely love a more mature Rufus, at least now that I'm not a teenager anymore but I love history, BBC costume drama and classic literature so it was impossible to escape. So, in no particular order, Middlemarch and The Woodlanders, In A Savage Land and The Taming of the Shrew, The Pillars of the Earth and Zen. I'm still wondering why I love Petruchio so much, being the feminist I'm but I suppose that if a man can manage to look so manly and sexy and almost sweet wearing make-up and high heels, well, nothing else matters. I have a thing for male hair so this movie is just a feast. And let's not forget the scene with "The Barber of Seville" playing out loud. But, Tom Builder is THE MAN for me.

Welcome Laila! What a lovely name! I love Italy too - how lucky you are living there. On the subject of Zen I do recommend reading the books. I've read the whole Aurelio Zen series and loved it. I was particularly peeved that the series was cancelled after the third book in the series and book 4 Dead Lagoon was my favourite. Still life moves on. Who knows what genius piece of work we might have had to live without if the series had continued. I console myself with this thought. One more thing. That avatar! Good choice

Welcome Laila! I have told my story so often.
I too first fell in love with Will Ladislaw and was very happy with him until the wonderful Petruchio came along and took over everything.
Then there was Mick, Marke,... Marco... my dearest Aurelio and of course, the naughtiest of naughty boys... Adhemar.
Join in and have fun

I'm particularly thrilled to see In a Savage Land up there. I loved Tom Builder and Petruchio and Giles and Will (and most of the others), but it was Mick Carpenter who really got under my skin.
