A while ago , I posted about the National Theatre film of the Live performance of its production of 'The Queen'. This was part of a series celebrating its 50th anniversary which is being shown across the country in art centres and houses.
Yesterday M(o)B and I were lucky to get Tickets for the 2nd showing of 'Othello' starring the wonderful Adrian Lester as the Moor and an equally towering Rory Kinnear as Iago. Set in modern times and in an army base somewhere hot, its themes of racism, age differences and jealousy are as relevant and powerful today as when the play was written.
I met the tear-filled eyes of other people in the aisles afterwards and repairing our faces in the 'ladies', smiling ruefully at each other. We were not ashamed to be moved by this performance.
If you have the opportunity to see this, I beg you do not miss it.
Rory Kinnear's Hamlet is to be shown in a few weeks time; I aim to do everything I can to see it.

Hi, did anyone get lucky with obtaining tickets for the National Theatre 50 Anniversary celebrations taking place Saturday evening. Live on BBC2 9pm - 11.15pm. I have the TV on record already!!
Enjoy if you did and please take a camera! I'd love to see Judi Dench and of course I'm always hoping that Rufus will make an appearance.

It was not really live what I saw yesterday at the cinema, but a film about the performance of "Frankenstein" at the NT. Because of Benedict Cumberbatch´s celebrity they are playing the film in different countries. It was the version where BC played Frankenstein and Jonny Lee Miller the Creature. Of course there were many BC fans at the cinema, and they will play it again with JLM as Frankenstein and BC as the Creature.
I was very impressed by Danny Boyle´s direction and esp. the performance of JLM. Although there are ironical points, the whole story is tragic to me: being left by the creator, naked and without a name, haunted by everyone who sees him, the Creature adapts to men´s cruelty and falsehood and becomes a murderer and liar himself. Having read the play before, I understood most of it, and the actors also spoke more distinctly on the stage than they would in a film.

I tried to book the NT Live showing of 'Warhorse' at our local Arts Centre. Unfortunately it was sold out and I had to book for the encore version >> next Thursday . Treat in store!! Do you ever feel a complete idiot??? I do, at this present moment. I have been looking forward to the above showing for days ... tomorrow, I thought , which I booked on-line. M(o)B called at the Arts Centre today for the tickets. When I looked at them,.....Wrong date!!!! . Of course I blamed M(o)B. Not his fault was his reply Who was the idiot who booked? Who was the idiot who made the mistake? It wasn't M(o)B ! I rang booking office ; no question, our showing is March 18th How could anybody mistake Thursday 27th Feb for Tuesday March 18th? They cannot exchange the tickets , tomorrow is completely sold out! Sick with disappointment I have crawled away to hide on the Rooftop to lick my wounds and console myself with Roofie-darling.

Poor Frannie!
I have found that my computer sometimes changes dates, orders the wrong product, erases information, sends email to the wrong people, and otherwise causes problems. Computers have evil minds of their own, and the best we humans can do is hope that they get bored of tormenting us and move on to the next victim.
I hope that a nice dose of Rufus will make you feel better!

I really wish there was a closer venue for me to be able to do this...I would love to, but the closest cinema that does this is over 70 miles away . So are you not able to go on the 18th? If not, that would be a real shame. Hope you get it worked out!

Thanks for reminding me Rueful...it has been a long time since Bill Gates' evil machines attacked me, that I had almost forgotten how evil they can be . Yes , Thanks Kate and Rumantic . we have managed to re arrange our extremely full diaries ( Ha Ha I don't think ) and we will be able to go. Anyway, an evening with Rufus always make me better ...at least he doesn't know I am such a nit or if he reads the board now and then , he might have missed it.

Thanks for reminding me Rueful...it has been a long time since Bill Gates' evil machines attacked me, that I had almost forgotten how evil they can be . That's just what they do, they lull you into a false sense of security! Glad you will get to enjoy the performance after all!

Good to hear that you will be able to go at the "wrong" date after all. Enjoy doubly, then!
