If the pilot goes to air, she’ll be going up against Rufus Sewell every week, which would conceivably mean she’ll have to keep her game running at a pretty high level.
[/i] [/quote] Thanks GE2 . this has hopefully answered something I have been wondering about. That is whether this pilot was a 'starter' with Rufus and if it went to air, the following series would be about his and Katie's characters or whether it would be complete and the following episodes would be about other characters ...that is separate stories with different cast? Oh!Please, please let it be the first!! Another thing, Did any one see 'Valmont' ? with Colin Firth, Henry Thomas Annette Bening and Meg Tilly. it almost disappeared because of the big Movie guns. This was released about the same time as 'Dangerous Liaisons' I saw both and I thought this was a better film(in my opinion). I read the book at the same time and felt that Valmont was closer to the original. .To start with the cast was younger and there was some humour mixed in. I don't mean they turned it into a comedy but the wit somehow made the corruption sharper ad more intense. And OMG! Colin was incredibly beautiful. John Malkovich, superb actor he may be, is not exactly pretty. I wonder if they might do something like that with Rufus's D.L keep it a little close to the original. Knowing how he likes it, he might want something with a little humour.

Thanks for finding this GE2. This must be good for Rufus. His name in articles with famous American celebrities and also starring with them on tv. I have to agree Frannie I didn't like the film of Dangerous Liaisons with John Malkovitch. I didn't see Valmont but from what you say it sounds much better. We will have to see what happens in this made for tv version. It can't go wrong in the looks and acting department with the cast that we know of.

Love that bit about Rufus, GE2!
Thanks for pointing out Valmont to me, Frannie!

That sounds very promising. GE2!
Francesca, thanks for bringing up the book and former films of Dangerous Liaisons! Meanwhile I read the book and watched both films.
IMHO 'Dangerous Liaisons' featuring John Malkovich is closer to the book, but it's a dark and depressing film, showing the worst of people. The setting of 'Valmont' featuring Colin Firth is not that brooding, it includes some funny scenes as well. That's one reason why I would prefer 'Valmont' to 'Dangerous Liaisons'.
As to the other reason I completely agree with Francesca :

Frannie - the way American TV works - the pilot is a "sample" of what the show will be on a continuing basis. Sometimes a pilot will be bought by the network but they will insist on cast changes, so just 'cause someone is in the pilot it doesn't necessarily mean they will end up in the series. I don't think we need to worry about that here though - the cast is pretty much top-notch. If ABC does pick this one up it would mean Rufus on our screens on a weekly basis. And thinks for the tip about "Valmont." I've seen "Dangerous Liaisons" with Malkovich but will have to look out for the other.

Thanks, Rachel - assuming it does get picked up, I suppose the only unknown factor is how long Rufus would want to do it. Frannie, thanks for the info. I didn't see Valmont, but do remember trying to watch the film of Dangerous Liaisons and not really getting into it. I'm sure I won't have that problem this time around, though.....

I watched both Valmont and Dangerous Liaisons and also preferred the former. I found Colin Firth's character much more believable and all the characters more likeable than in DL.

Agree GE2. Maybe actors don't feel so "trapped in a series" these days. Seems the trend is to kill off main characters wnen not expected. Not that I would want that to happen.

Agree with you GE2 and Kygal - after EH Rufus was quite vocal about his relief of not being tied down for years. But the man is famous for saying he reserves the right to change his mind! Plus, he may be more comfortable since the director/producer behind this project is known for quality work.

And, of course, it depends what else he has lined up/gets offered!
